ABOUT ME
I like to travel. I like to be self sufficient and I like making things by hand/from scratch. I like mountains, mountain music, hiking, reading, writing, knitting, growing vegetables, baking, biking, dancing, making music and drinking, preferably all at the same time!
PHILOSOPHY
I believe in participating in local customs where ever I am, from eating local cuisine to seeing local dance, music and art.
I am polite and a good guest, and believe in leaving a place better than I found it.
I believe in conservation, and transitioning to decentralized, local economies and energy sources.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am on the road right now, mostly participating as a surfer. But I have definitely done my share of putting up friends, friends of friends, and strangers--mostly not through couch surfing.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far just staying at friends and family's couches. Also where I used to live I put up many friends, as well as traveling musicians and activists that I didn't personally know, but needed a place to stay. I couch surfed in London once, which was honestly a mixed experience. But I'm optimistic.
Interests
Fiddle, banjo and guitar. Chess. Knitting and sewing. Mostly I listed these under the all-about-you section.

Music, Movies, and Books
Lots, but just to give you an idea: authors I like are Ursula K LeGuin, Derrick Jensen, Michel Foucault, Flannery O'Conner and Jack Kerouac. Movies: Battle of Algiers, Annie Hall, Inglorious Basterds Music: live, local, folk music, also jazz...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I lived in Botswana for 4 months, traveled solo around southern Africa. Been staying put in southwestern VA as I was in graduate school.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can give you a fiddle or banjo lesson, sing you a song, or bake you a pie.
