About Me

I learned Spanish preparing for and during a homestay in La Paz, Bolivia in 1979. I lived with a family of artists who chose me because I was also an artist. It was a unique cultural experience because my homestay father was an indigenous Aymara.

Many trips to Mexico have improved my ability to converse, but I am still not fluent.

I have been making sculpture since 1976. I studied landscape architecture in 1980 and worked in the profession for 15 years as a way to make a living doing creative work, but promised myself to go back to sculpture if I could.

In 2000 I launched a business making public art which has kept me constantly busy with work that I truly enjoy, and on a roller-coaster of boom and near bust!

2016 started out slow, but suddenly I'm busy with several very nice projects and my first international commission.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Improve my social life, do more traveling, meet new people, make new friends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live near an express bus line in a highly walkable West Seattle neighborhood near the Alaska Junction town center.

The best feature is the local traveler-friendly coffee shop which serves the best drinks and is a homey neighborhood gathering place. I spend a few hours there daily to do computer work.

Sometimes there are interesting things to look at in my studio or metal shop.

I have a number of public art installations around the Seattle area, and am happy to recommend a tour route and give you the back story on any of them!

Currently I'm pretty busy but we could probably cook a meal together or go to a local eatery of which there are many.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, France, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain
