About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Create beautiful, politically important films. Learn French. Simplify, consolidate, build community.

ABOUT ME

I've got a sense of curiosity that can be too big for my own good. I love to explore, learn, converse and experience. I approach my relationships and activities with exuberance, which means that I earn my 8 hours of sleep each night. I tend towards excitement, risk and unknown situations, but value opportunities to focus and simplify. As I grow older, I am appreciating stillness more and more.

Right now I am living in Toronto where I make films and help progressive organizations communicate their stories. I am driven by my passion for climate justice, and a more fair and democratic society.

PHILOSOPHY

If you want to be happy, be.
-Leo Tolstoy

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Host, surf, participate in the odd forum.

Was living in a house that was a real couch surf hub in Ottawa, Canada, and now I am traveling, exploring and surfing!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Every moment of couchsurfing has been amazing. I have hosted in Canada, surfed in Canada and New Zealand and most recently, surfed in Turkey.

One stand-out story was with Can in Kas, Turkey. We arrived at his place just before sunset, after a week of hiking, and before we were able to realize how hungry, tired and smelly we were, he had plunked us down beside a nice big fire, secured two glasses of Raki in our hands and was showing us how to properly cook Hamsi (anchovies from the Black Sea) over a barrel fire. Good man!

Interests

Riding bikes, building bikes, helping others ride bikes, taking pictures, documentaries, climbing trees, baking bread, experiencing the fear of heights, haute cuisine, down home cooking, good ol rock and roll, big hugs from friendly people, wrestling friends, running, eating cereal without a spoon, beatboxing in the shower, beer, whiskey, new vistas, back alleys,

Music, Movies, and Books

Boards of Canada - Music has the right to Children, Bob Dylan - Blood on the tracks, Paul Simon - Graceland, Sigur Ros - Takk, and some of that new-fangled stuff

Books: my favourite book is East of Eden. I'm currently working my way through Anna Karenina.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a spring day during my undergraduate in Montreal, I was walking to the library with an unhappy feeling in my stomach. I was tired of such a predictable routine and when I reached the end of my street, instead of turning left towards the campus, I turned right and walked north. I continued for 21 hours, through the day and night and well out of town. At sunrise I turned around, put my thumb up and hitch-hiked back to town.

I felt so free and autonomous in this walk. It is very empowering to remind yourself that you have complete control over your own fate. It is also a fascinating experience leaving a city without the aid of motorized transport.

Teach, Learn, Share

All about bikes, (repair, history, riding)
I can teach you to bake bread.
I am pretty highly trained in First Aid (is that interesting?)
I studied the history of colonialism and indigenous peoples in Canada (and have some stories to share)
