About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to extricate myself from Ottawa

ABOUT ME

I'm from Stockport, which is a pretty bog standard town in northern England, but where I still call home. For university I usually study and live in Birmingham(UK) but for the past year I've been studying in Ottawa.

I like reading books and telling people in an over excited way about my response to them. Equally I like eating new food and telling people in an over excited way about my response to them. I also like reading books about food, though I will always respond in an upright and reserved fashion to these.

In the past few years I've been trying to see as much of the world as possible (a fairly natural response for anyone from Stockport, believe me) and thanks to Pizza shop wages I have managed to get to a good fair few places in Europe, Gambia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and North America. Happily my girlfriend Natalie has also been with me on a lot of these trips, though as I've been in Ottawa this year I've only seen her for two weeks out of 8 months and so I'm pretty excited to get back to the UK and see her

PHILOSOPHY

the central mantra of my existence is the 5 second rule-- you can pick up any food stuff that has been floored (apart from butter down toast and yoghurt), and still eat it safely, so long as it's within 5 seconds of being dropped.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I can't have people to stay at my home, as I live with my parents and sister. In the future however I'd really like to be able to offer somewhere to stay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have none, but I'm really looking forward to getting involved :)

Interests

Reading, playing rudimentary guitar, eating silly food and talking rubbish about other rubbish-- most things are fun for me to chat about, it doesn't really matter about the topic, just as long as the people are good

Music, Movies, and Books

the books, I really enjoy mid to late 20th century fiction- I really like Paul Auster, Thomas Pynchon, Graham Greene, J.G. Ballard, Salman Rushdie, Martin Amis, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Will Self, so fairly 'male' stuff (although I am in fact a secret feminist- and i don't mean that in a creepy chat up line kind of way, but in a Gertrude Stein was pretty ace kind of way). I also have a huge soft spot for Agatha Christie and detective stories in general.

I also read a fair few non-fiction titles, and like things to do with religious and social history (mainly again in the 20th century but also in the colonial period of the Americas and nothing would be off limits).

For music, I like fluffy pop music, hip hop, drum and Bass and heavy metal, all for the gym, and pretentious mopey indie (such as the smiths, Pulp, Interpol etc) and British rap for the rest of life.

For films I like being scared, being moved to tears and being amused, this is why I watch jennifer aniston's career with interest. I'm pretty mainstream in my tastes to be honest- i like chick flicks, tarantio, hitchcock, kubrick. I'd like to be a bit more adventurous really

I'm a big fan of stand up comedy- and although I'm not saying that Stewart Lee is Jesus, he's pretty darn close

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met margaret atwood, that was certainly the most surreal moment of my life
