About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To write books and see as much of the universe as possible.

ABOUT ME

I'm a writer and the co-founder and editor of Fast Forward Press (www.fastforwardpress.org), as well as the new anthology series, Anthology of the Awkward. I currently teach writing and literature classes to college students in Denver. I enjoy traveling as much as possible, and my wanderlust and spontaneity have led me on zillions of phenomenal adventures. You can read some of my writing and learn about other projects I'm involved in here: www.konamorris.com.

PHILOSOPHY

"Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes."
—Walt Whitman

"Just because X is comforting does not imply that X is true."
—Richard Dawkins

"In sum, do not insult me with the beheadings, finger-choppings or the lung-deflations you plan for my works. I need my head to shake or nod, my hand to wave or make into a fist, my lungs to shout or whisper with. I will not go gently onto a shelf, degutted, to become a non-book.

All you umpires, back to the bleachers. Referees, hit the showers. It’s my game. I pitch, I hit, I catch. I run the bases. At sunset I’ve won or lost. At sunrise, I’m out again, giving it the old try.

And no one can help me. Not even you."

—Ray Bradbury

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am ecstatic to say that I surfed on the couch of the co-founder of CouchSurfing before the company was even created. He is an old and dear friend of mine and I am so thrilled by how much this project has grown over the years. It just goes to show how much can come about with some innovative thinking and motivation.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have spent a great deal of my life both as a couch-surfer and as a couch-host. For as long as I can remember my motto has been that I always have a place for a friend to crash. I have had up to twelve people at one time crashing on the couches, floors, and beds of places I've lived in northern Alaska, northern California, Denver, and Boston.

Interests

Words and people and music and films and art and philosophy and science and logical conversations and the enigmatic profundity of the universe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to sum up. I left home early and haven't stopped since. Couch-hopping and sneaking into classes at Harvard, dozens of Greyhound journeys across every state in America, living in a small Gwich’in village north of the Arctic Circle, visiting crocodiles farms in Costa Rica, squatting in Ireland, working at hostels on the French Riviera, hiking through exquisite green gorges in Slovenia, being a connoisseur of graffiti art in Portugal, watching a red sunset light the intricate palace walls of the Alhambra in Granada, witnessing the iridescent shimmer of fairy wings on flying fish as they leap over the unmixing waters of the bright turquoise Alboran Sea and black shards of the Atlantic on a ferry from Spain to Morocco and then suddenly seeing the colossal rock tip of Africa appear through thick mist, climbing the dunes of Death Valley to stay up all night in awe at more stars than I ever imagined were possible to observe with a naked eye, and a million other brilliant experiences that I'll spend my life trying to find words to describe.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an English professor, so I can teach you all sorts of things about writing and literature. I lived with the Gwich'in tribe of northern Alaska and can share about the language, culture, and environment. I also know how to make pickle juice martinis, do the Charleston, and I know a lot of good jokes.
