About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Not all those who wander are lost.

ABOUT ME

I am an aspiring archaeologist/history buff with a love of folklore and legends. I am a fountain of useless knowledge and have a habit of looking at the sky. I feel in tune with rocks, water and trees and have often thought I'd make a good hermit. In my experience, the best days are the ones where you come home dirty, bloody, exhausted and with a great story to tell. I've run in an ancient Greek stadium and partied with the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra. I am the oldest in a family of four kids, the other three are brothers. I want to expand my knowledge of "out of date" crafts and chores. I am Christian, but captivated by the traditions of religions past and present. I understand chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks and some French. Name collecting, meanings and origins and finding the perfect thing to use them on is a major pasttime. I make darn fine scrambled eggs and always enjoy a good clever bumper sticker. I know every word to the Pirates of Penzance and can wax philosophical on the most random subjects and cannot imagine a world without peanut butter. Someday I'd like to chase a tornado, decipher the Phaistos Disk and be above the Arctic Circle for a solstice. I'm a firm believer in letting kids play in the dirt and I'm in the process of inventing the next great fairytale.

PHILOSOPHY

Moderation.

Interests

In no particular order, and not to be taken too seriously: climbing trees, trivia, rocks, history, Ripsticking, playing with peacocks, meanings and origins of names and words, water, archaeology, travel, reading classics, fantasy, folklore, and occasionally my dictionary, random list making, music, the sky, contra dancing, geography, sparkly things, and just about anything else that presents itself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have walked in places where people walked thousands of years ago. I have stood before the Lion Gate of Mycenae, and in the spot Paul would have preached to the Corinthians. I have dipped my hands into the same spring that the Oracle of Delphi would have used and I ran a foot race in a stadium that was second only to Olympia in the prestige of its sporting events. I found an amphora handle which still bore the finger prints of the potter who made it over 2000 years ago. I get chills when I think about stuff like that...
