About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Becoming a famous contemporary art artist by exhibiting a piece of tin foil representing the vanity of human condition

ABOUT ME

I can't describe myself with objectivity, the only thing I can say is that I am generally joyful, enthusiastic, and sociable. I am also aware of being opinionated and judgmental, which can be seen as a quality or flaw. I usually say what I think even if it is harsh. In any case I am never neutral but don't claim to know things that I don't.

I've hung out with a lot of foreign people since my first year of uni and I really enjoy meeting people from all over the world.
I am very interested in relativity and see how mentalities differ from one country to another one. I also like to challenge stereotypes even if half of the time they seem to be true!

As a Foreign Languages teacher, I find it crucial that my students and people in general open their minds to other cultures and different ways of thinking. My final masters essay was on cultural awareness and developing means to open teenagers' mind to the Otherness at school.

I love having a nice meal/drinks with people and talk. Now that we have a bigger flat I really enjoy having friends around.

I am a tidy freak and slightly obsessed with home decoration and order but try to relax about it!

PHILOSOPHY

I wish people were nicer and more helpful with each other.
I have worked in a shop for a month, which is not a long time, but it was enough to be quite affected by the aggressive and mean attitude of the managers towards the employees. They were just cruel for the pleasure of hurting people.

I remember this day I've seen an old man lying on the ground in the rain, he fell down many minutes before I arrived, and it was in front of a crowded metro station. Nobody helped him to stand up apart from me.
Why were people so indifferent? It seems so natural to help someone with something as simple as standing up.
I am trying to lower my carbon footprint and to consume more ethically by strictly buying second-hand,fairtrade and organic clothing, or by making my own clothes. I don't buy any meat or fish for environmental and ethical reasons but do not make a fuss if someone has cooked one of these for me. If I eat or have a drink out I only go to independent places as I'd rather give them my money to support their business than to big chains.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I attend the Brighton CS meetings as much as I can and have met fun and interesting people there, that I carry on seeing if they live in Brighton or regret to see them leave! I had a great time at Northern Lights pub, barbecues, house parties and on the beach with them!
My boyfriend and I recently had a house warming party that 40 couchsurfers attended (ok, the neighbours wanted to call the police, but that's another story!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted and surfed and was amazed to see how people can be welcoming, trustful and generous. It gives you faith in humanity when you meet such great people!

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy watching independent American and French films. I also like romantic / dramatic Hollywood films from the 1950/60s.
My two favourite directors are Pedro Almodovar and Alfred Hitchcock.

And my favourite authors : Baudelaire, Diderot, Beckett, Eugène Ionesco, Marguerite Duras, Albert Cohen, Christian Bobin, Paul Auster, Harper Lee, Nancy Huston, Virginia Woolf, Charlotte Brontë.
I am quite addicted to Alexander McCall Smith's books at the moment!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have met two giant turtles in the Caribbean sea in Mexico when swimming on my own. I have held one of them and swam with her, she did not mind and was very gentle.
I only had swimming goggles on and was having a crisis of euphoria on my own, in the sea!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you French and explain you its difficult grammar! (Very appealing, isn't it?)

I am really keen on crafting, I you come around to our flat you will realise that most things are handmade (because I point it out!). I can teach a lot of different craft techniques and would be very interested to learn new skills as well.
