About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Oh, I just bob around like a cork on the seas of fate.

ABOUT ME

A young man who finds it difficult to write about himself without feeling he's being either overly self-aggrandizing or overly self-deprecating.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once lived with a very active CS host, so I had a large number of couchsurfers sleeping right outside my door over the course of last summer. I also had the privilege of interacting with a number of these and other surfers, and decided it was something I wanted to became part of.

Interests

esoterica, vegetarian cooking, bees, ukulele, music in general, storytelling, radio, radio documentary, writing, beer, anthropology, wine, onions, spirits, don quixote, baking cakes, bicycles!, skeptical but respectful inquiry into religious traditions, accordions of pretty much any variety, the banjo, learning new tricks, cycling, languages, and quite a bit more.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite authors right now are Cervantes, Chatwin, and Calvino. Music is a grab-bag-- I tend to fixate on one thing for a month or two and then move on to something radically different.

As for other media, I have a serious "This American Life" problem, and I've been known to binge on the Savage Lovecast.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a background in the anthropological study of millenialism and apocalypticism, so if you need a rundown on comparative eschatology, I guess I'm your man. I can also show you the basics of old-time (clawhammer/frailing) style banjo-playing, as well as my own idiosyncratic ukulele style. Oh, and I'm really good at cooking eggs.

I'm teaching myself how to play piano at the moment, so any help with that would be much appreciated. I'm also trying to become a better cook, so any tips or techniques a more experience cook could share with me would be great.
