关于我
I'm Mercedes and I have just finished my degree in Primary Education. I love to travel and I try to contribute with my knowledge and skills every time:
My first experience in other country was in Serbia; for a moment, I was scared and I felt nervous, because it was my first time traveling abroad alone, but when I met my colleagues I felt very comfortable and that week was one of the best in my life. I learned a lot about myself and I appreciated the value of sharing no matter your nationality, religion, age, gender, etc.
From this unforgettable volunteering, I was looking for more experiences, so I won a scholarship, from my University, in Khamlia, a village in the middle of the Sahara desert; I had to develop a syllabus for one week about educational games and playful activities. It was a challenge for me because it was the first time that my University developed this program, so I had to coordinate, to plan and to direct all the activities from the first moment. On the other hand, their culture is extremely different from mine, so I needed to find appropriate activities which were fun for the children and that they learned in a funny way. It was difficult, but I did and the result was extraordinary. I could develop my knowledge and skills as teacher and also, I knew a wonderful culture and I met bright people with another way of living that transmitted me peace and kindness.
The next year, I won another scholarship from my University, this time I was going to live in Brazil. At first I was afraid, because I was going to spend a lot of time there, but it was the best experience of my life! I studied in The Federal University of São Paulo and in my free time I travelled around the country. I met amazing people with very strong values; with them I learned a lot of policy, social movements in Latin America and of course I knew the Brazilian culture which is one of the most varied and diverse. Furthermore, I experienced how is to live abroad and away from your family for a long time and how is to live in a house with diverse people. I felt free and I was willing to do things that I never thought to do. So, I arrived at Spain cooking new recipes, speaking another language, knowing a rich and diverse culture and with a lot of friends and experiences that I will never forget!
The same year I won another scholarship from my University, in this case I volunteered for six months in Colima, Mexico. I felt very comfortable and happy because I would work as a teacher. I lived and worked in a house where they receive and integrate children from families with economic and social problems. My main task was to prepare and develop activities every week to improve students' academic results. Also, I lived with them so we spent all day together, preparing outdoor activities, cooking meals, teaching daily skills, etc. Those months I could develop my teaching skills and also, I could develop myself as a person. It was very gratifying to see how the children improved their grades and their behaviour through the educational activities. Also, I knew another amazing culture and I met great friends.
我做过的一件不可思议的事情
- I was snorkeling with a friend in Mexico, when suddenly a shark appeared under us, luckily nothing happened because the shark didn't see us and we swam fast to the boat.
- When I was living in Colima (México) I survived two earthquakes, a hurricane and an erupting volcano!!
- I have been in the Carnival of Brazil.
- I had two encounters with Mexican narcos, fortunately nothing happened!
