About Me

Hello, I'm Belen- means Bethlehem in Spanish and rhymes with watermelon. I'm currently in uni, and I'm finally getting my bachelors next year after changing my study three times! You can say that I'm an indecisive person, but I like to believe that life is too short to be one person for the rest of your life, so why not try to be a politician/comedian/teacher all at once? I ultimately had to decide, so I chose to take the route of filmmaking where I could combine my craftiness and knowledge. I plan to make documentaries on social issues, but first I want to get my TESOL. My goal is to do that for a year or two abroad, save up my money, and get my masters in a progressive European country that offers tuition for a logical, reasonable price, so I don't get myself into a deep hole of college debt back at home. I want to devote my life to helping bring back humanity, so we'll see how that goes ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have yet to be hosted, but I can't imagine a better way to travel than to stay with a local. You get to see the city from their point of view.
I tend to live by very wise words André 3000 once said, "The comfort zone gets you nowhere."

Interests

- I love having political discussions and talking about social issues.
- Playing board games, anything from Cranium, Scrabble, puzzles!
- Going to parks.
- Attending shows, always down to be someone's concert buddy!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music

Oh, music. I've sacrificed most of my hearing, to the point where I need to have my tv set at a ridiculously high volume, and I need subtitles. One of my favorite hobbies is sharing music with someone else. I'm open to all types, except (yep I'm being cliché right now) country. I believe I developed this attitude from living in an over patriotic country, 'Merica.
I spend most of my time listening to indie, alternative rock, chillwave. If I'm not at work, I'm either at a concert or music festival. I've been to Life is Beautiful, Coachella, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, iHeart Radio, and FYF Fest, so if you're a music junkie we'll have tons to catch up on.

Movies

Besides having horrible hearing, I like to blame my astigmatism on television. I watch a lot of it...I've always struggled with answering what my favorite movies are, so I'll tell you about the impressive ones I've seen recently! A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Beasts of No Nation, Brooklyn, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Swiss Army Man, The Lobster, What We Do in the Shadows. I do love foreign films and documentaries. I wasn't a huge fan of b&w films, until I saw A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. I'm a shameful film student 🙈

Books

I'll pick up anything, if it's a novel about the possible extinction of Monarchs to fan fiction involving Sufjan Stevens reading the Bible!
I can't really choose a favorite (I'm actually a really indecisive person), but a novel I recently read was Beijing Comrades. I tend to read fiction more, but I also spend a majority of my time reading articles online.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I backpacked Europe for three weeks, and it was absolutely life changing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I might be able to teach you how to cook some delicious Mexican plates, although I suggest having a fire extinguisher nearby..

Share my experience of living in Las Vegas, there's an art/music scene that's quickly growing outside of the 4 mile Strip. I'm not very familiar with the east coast, but I can give you some advice on the Pacific Northwest. Oceans, forests, city life, it's beautiful out there.

I hope you can teach me about your culture or anything really. I strive to be a Wikipedia ;)
