About Me

Heia!!

I’m Anna Marie! I grew up between a small (quite ugly) city in Germany and an even smaller (but quite beautiful) town in Northern Italy. When I was sixteen I moved to Norway where I first studied as an exchange student and then, later on, worked in the middle of nowhere.

I guess that's the first time I really got a"culture shock" (uhm, ya, you can get them even within Europe!) and I happen to like that challenge so much that, as soon as I could, I left again.

I've always struggled sticking to things as I am very curious and get easily distracted by new interests and ideas, a thing which sometimes really frustrates me. But there is indeed a few things I've always been very passionate about, above all ice cream (aka gelato). Following: hiking, the environment, languages, movies and all the other things that make me happy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I remember following this guy’s column about how he was traveling from one country to an other, one adventure after the other, while staying with couch surfers from all over the world.

Years later and here I am! Couchsurfing just seems to combine all the things I’m looking for when I travel: it’s the perfect way to meet new (local) people, share dinners and stories and keep it low budget!

I would love to host you all and I promise I'll do once I have my own place again! :)

Interests

I’ve always loved going for walks and hiking in the mountains back in Italy, even if the last couple of years I haven’t been doing it as much as I would like to. Or maybe I’m just finding excuses?

I developed a strong addiction to saltwater while being in Australia and I honestly fear the day I’ll have to live far from the Ocean again!

I’ve never sticked to one sport in particular (sometimes I really wish I did!) but I love to be active and keep myself busy! I enjoy going for crazy bike rides around the city, kayaking, taking pictures of landscapes, camping (I looove sleeping in a tent!), observe people on the streets, listen to music, going to the movies, read books and write a bit. I had just started to pick up long boarding but ended up breaking my arm, so that will have to wait for a while! :)

Oh, and I love ice-cream.

Music, Movies, and Books

That’s a hard one! I just can’t choose!

I’m really bad at remembering titles and authors anyway, so it will probably be that I’ll just randomly come up with something!

Last song that got stucked in my head
„I am the antichrist to you“ by Kishi Bashi

Last book I’ve read
"Question of travel"

Last movie I've seen at the cinema
I reckon it must be "Joy"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled up the Westcoast of Australia and loved every bit of it!

Two incredible months of gorgeous landscapes, heaps of seawater and red sand, way too little showers, dinner on campfires every night and the beautiful sky above us! It was definitely an intense experience but it reminded me of how much I love nature and can't live without it.

Uhm, I also lived in sort of a commune for about four months. It was a very interesting, intense and crazy experience. I've shared my room, the bathroom, food and my life with up to 35 people at the same time. Loved it! I can't wait to repeat the experience in an other commune around the world and would love to meet people who have done such thing as well.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to say that being Italian makes me a great cook, but nope! However, there's a couple of dishes that I've become quite good at making...I could give it a try!

There's so many things that interest me lately: I'm pretty sure I could learn so much from you guys! I'd love to learn more about photography and how to make decent Italian food, take up skating and overcome my fear of big big waves.
