Overview
About Me
My name is Nate Garner and I am 21 years old from New Hampshire. I am currently a student at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. I am very interested in sustainability and conservation and as a result, many of my hobbies and interests involve the outdoors. I like hiking, biking, whitewater kayaking and just exploring new places. I have also been swimming competitively for the past 14 years of my life. I love food, both cooking and eating. I love traveling because I think it gives you a better perspective on life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am Couchsurfing because I find that I get the most reward and joy from meeting and learning from people who are very different from myself. I want to hear people’s stories, learn how to cook a new dish or discover a unique local spot. As a student, I often feel limited by who I interact with and where I can go. Traveling, especially through Couchsurfing will allow me to expand my horizons, meet locals, and explore a different side of the places I visit. As I mentioned earlier, I love exploring new places and I think the best way to do that is by meeting locals who can share their favorite spots.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love almost all types of music. My top picks recently usually come from indie folk, bluegrass, country, pop/funk, or rock genres. Some of my favorite artists are Green Day, Jon Bellion, Bob Dylan, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Lumineers, and Simon and Garfunkel. My favorite author is Cormac McCarthy and have too many favorite movies to count.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I went on a two week long whitewater kayaking trip in the southeastern U.S. We camped along riversides, got chased off by angry locals, hid from park rangers, and hucked ourselves off of waterfalls in small plastic boats. I got to spend a lot of time with good friends by the fire, and shared a feeling of terror and exhilaration on the river.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a lot to learn, as I am just beginning my traveling expedition. I will share as much as I can about myself and I am seeking someone who is authentic and willing to share stories with me. I probably have more to share than I realize and I think traveling and meeting new people will help uncover that.
