About Me

Twitter and Instagram: @kobriendublin
I actually rarely go to Dublin anymore, but as I am using that Username for so long, it is hard to change it.
------------------------------------------------------

August 2023 - Planning a fre foreign trips, so using the "meetup" / "hangout" options to meet up with hosts and travellers across some cities that I am visiting in the near future.

June 2023 - I am not hosting for the foreseeable future. I am sharing the house with a Ukrainian family, and have not hosted since March 2022.

March 2022 - I am keeping my profile open for Ukrainian refugees to arrange accomodation with me.

February 2022 - I have partly retired from CS hosting. Because of home working, I dont have the same space in the house as before.

March 2020 - February 2022: COVID happened, so no couchsurfers.

January 2019: Due to travel and pre-existing committments, I can only host for one or two nights at most. I can not facilitate longer terms stay at all.

September 2019: In Ireland - evening meals typically would happen between 6pm and 8pm. If you arrive after 8pm, many hosts will assume that, in all likelihood, you have already eaten. I dont keep that much food in the house. Also considering how many people fail to show up - I dont plan to cook for anybody.

September 2018: I wont be available at all for a few weeks: I am basically booked out completely.

August 2018: For the sake of simplicity - I absolutely NEED people to use the CS request system properly, so that you appear on my Dashboard and that I don't forget about you. How important this is depends on how far it is before your stay. If the request is within the next 72 hours, this is not such a big deal really. If your stay is two weeks or more away, then it is absolutely vital to go through the confirmation system. I get a lot of messages and it is very hard to keep track of everybody.

July 2018: There is going to be quiet a few "declines" for the rest of July. I am either already booked, or away for the night. You never know - you might still find a spot at my house, so give it a go all the same.

May/June 2018: I am away for about two weeks in Late May / Early June.

April 2018: If you have to get something printed, please do so at an internet café in the city centre. It is not something I can facilitate at short notice.

March 2018: I LOVE geographically themed Fridge Magnets. Speciality herbal teas are also welcomed.

February 2018 : CS messaging has been crashing a lot lately. There is a whole pile of messages that I cant access. Go to the "couchsurfing ireland" FB group and see if you can find me there.

September 2017 : I have several family members staying with me for an extended period. My hosting availability is going to be very limited.

August 2017 : I am hosting a lot of people at the moment, particularly as I am one of the few hosts who can take a big group. To make an extra room, I emptied the contents of one room into the hall and kitchen. This makes the house look untidy, but at least everyone gets their own bedroom, and nobody has to sleep on the floor.

Summer 2017: I wont be able to host anybody before 13th July.

Spring 2017: Please make sure to make a formal CS request with me if you are asking well in advance. It makes sure that it gets put in the calendar, and that I dont forget about you.

Spring 2017 : Limerick can be a tough place to find hosts. Ennis is close by, cheap and easy to get to, and has a hostel too. You can get to Galway and the Cliffs of Moher pretty easily from there.

Spring 2017 : I am going to be making several some short trips in February and March. It is going greatly curtail the amount of hosting that I can do. If you are stuck for a room - give me a shot anyway.

September 2016 : I have to stop accepting guests for a while. I have already pretty booked up already for early September. If it is later than that - give me a shout.

August 2016 : I am getting very self-conscious about how brief my references are. Just know that in each and every single case I really enjoyed hosting them and would jump at the chance to host them again.

=================================================
My Mom says I am cool!

My house is in south-western suburbs of Limerick city, near the hospital. There is plenty of room: I can hold a group of three or four easily.

It is a 20 minute bus ride from the city centre, or a 45 minute walk.
If you are hitch-hiking, it is a 10-15 minute walk to the main M20 junction, and 10-15 to the Crescent Shopping Centre.

FYI: This is is a pet friendly house, and probably not a house for people with Dog or Cat Allergies. My neighbour's cat makes regular inspections of the house, if I leave the back door open. My parents work for two Yorkshire Terriers - who also make frequent inspections. I have never hosted a young family, but they are very welcome. Likewise LGTB travellers.

I love having movie nights here. If it is lashing rain outside, and you just want to watch a movie - this is the place to be.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

EDIT: I am now working normal office hours in an office campus on the opposite side of the city, This has curtailed my availability

I work from home a lot. It is great to have some company, and some life, in the house. In fact I probably work better when there are people around.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I invented the wheel......and the Celsius temperature scale....and Dogs.

That is three amazing things, I know, but I am *THAT* amazing

What I Can Share with Hosts

Here are some great day trips you can make from Limerick

1) Cliffs of Moher - either with PaddyWagon or with BusEireann (bus route 350 from Ennis )

2) Kilkee and Loop Head.

3) Killarney (and if you have a car, probably Dingle too )

4) Cork - my favourite city in Ireland, after Limerick

5) Galway - because if you dont go there, everyone will be asking you why not. (it is a great town too!!)

FYI: It is pretty easy to get to Dublin Airport from Limerick, even for an early morning flight. FYI It is better to stay on the other side of the city if you are thinking about doing this.
