About Me

I'm Ruby, a university student from Hong Kong, but currently an exchange student in Miami. I always believe we should seize the moment and do what we like, instead of what we are expected to. I’m an adventurous person and always challenge myself by doing things that I’ve never done. My goal is to visit every single country and to be exposed to all kinds of culture one day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I was a kid, I used to travel with my parents in the most typical way – staying at a hotel for days, visiting touristic places and so on. But I realized it isn’t the right way to travel. I want to see the world by actually talking and meeting with local people. I want to experience their natural life style, go to places that locals go to, try food that locals eat, instead of doing something tourists do. Couchsurfing is definitely the best way to meet new friends and learn a new culture.

Interests

I love music. I’ve learned three kinds of musical instruments for years not simply because I love music. It is a way to communicate one’s thought with people despite the geographical and cultural boundaries – it’s universal.

I also like swimming as it was the first sport my dad taught me. It’s not only a sport but a childhood memory to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Honestly, I like a diverse variety of music, from classical music to rock music, because I believe what you like to listen to at the moment highly depends on the occasion you’re at. Besides, music is part of a culture. Why would we compare or even rank cultures?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to do volunteer work for my community when I was in high school. The most unforgettable experience I had was to visit solitary elderlies on an island. I gave them food, talked to them, and reported their needs to the charity. I’d never forget the smile and excitement on their face when they saw us.
