I am Olaf. Passionate about life and how it works. For this and generally spoken, I like to take my time. "Maka aina aho" literally means "I take life" in Malagasy and is used for saying "I take a pause". It's my favourite expression for pausing in the languages I know so far. In my experience, it is in these very moments that we become more likely to feel, perceive and therefore little by little understand what is really going on inisde of and around us. Among others, doing this with a certain discipline enables me to catch the present momentum, follow spontaneous impulses and being the lucky experiencer of life's beauty as it unfolds. This is important to me while travelling and also during my daily life. I am one of the slowest walkers I've met so far, I like espresso, dancing and listening vinyls.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy both: learning new languages and getting to know new people, mentalities and their microcosms - especially in their first languages. And luckily the former facilitates the latter. Oftentimes, I was lucky being hosted by locals during my travels. This gifted me with dozens of memorable moments and I am happy to experience more of that. Though I am generally quite sceptic about the use of social media, I find couchsurfing a very nice example of the beauty that can be created through technology.
