About Me

I love meeting new people and being spontaneous. After graduating University in 2014 I spent over two years working in finance before finding myself a bit bored and unfulfilled and since then I have been rotating between bartending and traveling. I lived and taught English in Chile for 6 months in 2016 and also spent about 6 months in Italy in 2017. I speak both Spanish and Italian decently at this point but still have plenty of room for improvement. I live in West Bloomfield, MI; a great little piece of suburbia in Metro Detroit. I have lived all around the United States. I love to meet new people and try new things. Although I don't have much experience with Couchsurfing, my sister has been both a host and a guest and only has amazing things to say about Couchsurfing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel and Couchsurfing is an amazing community for travelers. Growing up in Orlando; I was surrounded by tourists, and my friends and I created a stigma around the idea of the tourist. Because of this I feel the need to immerse myself in the culture of the places I visit. There is no better way to do this than to connect with locals through Couchsurfing. Even when I don't need a place to stay, it serves as an amazing medium to connect with travelers and locals.

Interests

I love cinema, music and classic literature. I collect vinyl records. My favorite sports are Futbol and Tennis. I love to go on adventures through the city just as much as I enjoy nature. I enjoy meeting new people and to have long and meaningful conversations. I truly believe that everyone you meet has something they can to teach you and I am always excited to learn. I am also a bit of a food fanatic and cook as often as possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

When it comes to music there is very little I do not like. I listen to all genres and love music in languages other than my own. Although I like all genres my favorites are Motown, classic rock, and the crooners (Dean Martin/Sinatra/Nat King Cole). After studying the history of Latin America, I fell in love with the many genres of music found across the continent as well...
I also am a bit of a cinephile. I'm not the biggest fan of hollywood, but I have seen more independent and foreign films than most movie critics. I like movies old and new; I have always said, if you have not seen it then it is new. The french new wave is one of my favorite periods in cinema.

Teach, Learn, Share

Although I am currently quite discouraged by the corporatization of the American University, I am extremely passionate about about both learning and teaching. I actually planned on becoming a history or anthropology professor, but put that plan on hold because I can not put my heart into serving the current educational system in America. I have a love for different cultures. I love to talk with people about real issues, art, and history; but I believe in infinite empathy. There is no right or wrong, only different. I have also spent time teaching English both in a formal classroom setting in Chile for 6 months and also as a private tutor.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook and would love to teach and learn new cuisines with my hosts. I am a very neat and tidy person and don't mind cleaning up after others either. I truly believe in reciprocity and always try to pay it forward in one way or another. Anyone who might host me would have a lifetime connection in America as well.
