About Me
I'm a born and bred New Yorker, the last of a dying breed. I love meeting people from all walks of life and learning how it is they came to be whoever they are, wherever they are. Generally just have a interest in the human experience and how it varies due to a million different factors.
I am sociable dude yet still can find comfort in my own thoughts . I was couch surfing before there was a couchsurfing.com, and I have a slew of friends with worn out sofas who could attest to that.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am currently traveling in Europe and really do not want the cookie cutter experience that most seek when traveling abroad. I want to understand life, not go somewhere and have some fantasy comfortably built around me. I am looking to stay with some people, but in most cases I may just be looking for someone local who wants to hangout and show off their hometown or city of residence to someone who will appreciate it.
I am currently doing several programs while abroad working on farms, helping to renovate farms and harbors. In some cities I plan to visit there aren't many programs and if you don't know anyone who is local it is easy to get swept into the tourist traps. You can spend a week in a city and never truly get a taste of the place.
Interests
I am actually very interested in the Music scene. Music is one of my favorite things to enjoy and I am always interested in catching live shows or seeing street performances. I always end up asking where it is locals go to dance when they don't want to pay an arm and leg, or where are there some live shows for good bands. I like Alternative rock, Funk, Electronic, Hip Hop, Folk pretty much anything that has some authenticity and some attitude. I have a drum kit but am not very good at playing myself, but if you have a kit and want someone to jam with I have no problem doing my best to keep up and giving you a back beat.
I am Film buff. I am one of those geeks who will reference movie quotes and scenes if you allow me. I would most definitely be interested in meeting anyone who is shooting any of their own projects no matter how small or large it may be. Always cool to check out the independent film scene and being that I work professionally in G&E and Location Sound would be interested in helping out if I can. If there are any art houses showing cool flicks from whatever time period and from whatever genre, I will most likely be interested, especially if it gives me a taste of the town somewhat.
Music, Movies, and Books
I am a big fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers; TV on the Radio; Kings of Leon; Royksopp; Little Dragon; Lykke Li (first two albums); Haim; Kid Cudi (Indicud is highly underrated and overlooked); Kendrick Lamar; J.Cole; Ledd Zepplin; Lynyrd Skynyrd; Creedance Clearwater Revival; Alisson Krauss & Union Station; Fleetwood Mac... dammit man I just really dig good music no matter the genre, except contemporary country pop.
Cidade de Dues; Cidade dos Hommens; Taxi Driver; Fantasia; Amelie; Amores Perros; Full metal jacket; Spartacus; The Color Purple; The Day of the Jackal; Murmur of the heart; 400 blows.
Charels Bukowski (Ham on Rhye, Post Office, Women); Cormac McCarthy - Blood Meridian; Louis Sachar - The boy who lost his face, There's a boy in the girls bathroom, Dogs don't tell jokes; Langston Hughes - The ways of white folks; Alan Moore - Watchmen
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Worked as a Videographer at a camp in the mountains designed for inner city children who normally could not afford to experience a sleep away camp. I actually attended this program as a youth for about four summers and wanted to go back to help give other children a experience like mine.
It was amazing working and bonding with children sharing my passion for storytelling and filmmaking with them. The imagination and conceive original ideas in a child can be boundless and really opens your eyes to what it was like to be a kid.
The experiences I had working at the camp for four summers changed my life and the way I carry myself. I once was highly introverted and self conscious. There I met peple from around the world and learned to blossom and shine my light, not as a means to project self-worth, but to inspire others to be comfortable in their own skin.
Everyone has the right to be happy and feel valued. Being vulnerable at times when most people flee inwards creates a safe space for many who see themselves as invalid or unworthy of being seen or making loud noises. But if you are given life and the ability to dance, to scream, to run, to hug a stranger or kiss someone you think is beautiful then it is an insult to the very life you have been given to let those impulse go unrecognized.
The one amazing thing I ever did was realizing my value to the world and my responsibility to spread joy and happiness whenever I can.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Well I don't know if I can offer anything significant as an individual. I like to have fun, joke around and have a good time. I am a born and raised New York City boy and I think sometimes that comes with a certain outlook on life that can be fun and exciting in the right settings. I can tell you about where I'm from, my experiences living in the concrete jungle, growing up around so many cultures and ethnicities all mixed into a pot to create a sort of hybrid.
