About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Öykü. (pronouns: she / they). I'm a Turkish film critic based in Paris. I'm also a translator, a freelance copywriter and an PhD candidate. Yeah, I do love writing about movies. I don't usually take holidays but instead, prefer to go to film festivals! I live in Parisian suburbs with my partner and Ulysse, the cutest cat you can imagine.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I mentioned above, I go to film festivals a lot but since I'm a freelancer, I'm not usually payed in advance for my travel expenses and after some points, it gets economically impossible for me to survive. And I'm also a bit fed up with sleeping in 18 - bed dormitory type hostels, and would love to be able to properly interact with people with whom I share a living space.

Interests

World Cinema, Literature, Modern Philosophy, Contemporary Art, Record Collecting, Cats, Writing my incomprehensible ideas, thoughts, feelings.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big fan of 60s, 70s, 80s rock, pop, disco classics. Otherwise, I love what people would call "world music", with oriental and psychedelic tones (Khruangbin, Altin Gun, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard)

Books: Ulysses (lol that's obvious, right?), Proust, Woolf, Duras, Kafka, Cocteau. Anything about post-colonial studies, intersectionality, queer theory and feminism.

Cinema: Well... There are lot of things to say. We can talk about it when we meet....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Existing, isn't that enough? Just kidding... I interviewed Jane Campion, Wes Anderson and Greta Gerwig, does that count?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hmm. homemade Turkish food, a double bed, books, dvd's, vinyls, Ulysse's furry tummy and tours around the city?

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Turkey
