Présentation
À propos de moi
Hi, my name is Shelley and I'm a primary school teacher when I'm not traveling ;)
I basically grew up in a small town near Ghent, that's where I went to study. During my studies I went on an Erasmus program in Denmark, where I lived for three months. After I graduated I decided I wasn't up to finding a job and spending the rest of my life in the same place. I went to Sydney as an au pair for three months. After that, I worked and lived in The Netherlands for a while, and went back to Australia on a working holiday visa for a year.
At the moment, I am back in Belgium! Studying Social Profit & Public Management. I live in Eeklo, which is somewhere in the middle of Bruges & Ghent.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
As a traveller, I know very well how easily your money can "fly out of your pockets" (Dutch expression for spending it). I was extremely lucky when I was in foreign countries to run into people who were so nice to open up their house to me and not charging me for anything. And so, I want to do the same for all of you out there. Besides that, I think it's the easiest way to actually get to know a country or a place by being able to talk to someone who lives there and maybe can show you around. It adds so much more to your trip if you can spend it with a local!
Centres d'intérêt
Mostly traveling, different cultures, barbecues with friends at random places, going out with friend (clubs, festivals, local bands playing, bowling, laster tag, ...). And the most important part of the year: Metal Music Festivals. Me and my friends have been to some the biggest metal festivals in Europe. This year we have the following on our list: Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) + Metaldays (Slovenia). If anyone wants to visit those festivals, feel free to stay with us.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
Music: Rock, heavy metal, glam, ...
Besides that I still can enjoy most of the mainstream pop music and I'm open to pretty much everything. Just love going to any live music gigs that are on!
Movies: Mostly horror or comedy. I watch a lot more TV series than movies: HIMYM, Black Mirror, Game of Thrones, 2 Broke Girls, The Walking Dead, Friends, ... a bit of everything :)
Books: I have to say Harry Potter. I also enjoy dystopian books like George Orwell's 1984. Recently I also read Hunger Games & the Divergent series.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
If I have to pick one thing, it was getting in a car with a guy I just met when I was working as an au pair in Sydney. We drove 6 hours to a beach for the weekend, and had the most awesome time just drinking beer and swimming in the ocean in the middle of the night. People would say I was crazy for taking such a risk, but it turned out to probably be the best weekend of my life.
