About Me

I´m a voyager by Nature. National & International trips are part of my story.

In Israel, 1986-87, even before I was born, my mother (Chilean) and my father (Brazilian), both in a graduate program, met and were together for 12 years.
I am one of the two sons of this relationship between the two "countries". Therefore, the differences, similarities and relationships - ethnic, linguistic, cultural, historical and political - between different countries have always been present in my life.

Through regular trips to Chile to visit family, I developed not only another native language, but also an understanding that different realities are present in different regions, states and countries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Knowing different realities in different countries is essential to develop global geopolitical vision. In addition, the experience out the confort zone stimulates questions of moral, ethical, educational, political, consumption, etc.

For Fernando Pessoa "To travel existance is enough" and the reverse is true. Another known phrase is "To travel is to live." I agree with both, and I believe my travel gave and gives life, knowledge, world view perspectives and varied experiences.

In two years in the US, I had the opportunity to learn through a variety of experiences. After acquiring fluency in the language I reached personal goals of academic and professional nature. I worked as an adventure guide, as a USFS Wilderness Ranger, and worked in construction.

I travel to meet, to share, to learn, to experience, to live!

Interests

Local history and locals' stories. Local products, crafts, beer, food, heritage, culture and anything I wouldn´t be able to find on Google!

I love to be Outdoors: biking, hiking, camping, trekking, climbing, rafting/kayaking. I like to play team effort games such as soccer, volleyball....

I love Mountains, rivers, canyons, trails, sun, sky, rain, fresh air, trees, soil...anything that resembles Wilderness Areas.

In the cities, I enjoy learning through conversations, museums, books, movies, bike rides, sightseeing...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I could mention many that have played an important role on who I am today.

20 days Bike trip; Skydiving; Wilderness Ranger in Oregon, USA.

Teach, Learn, Share

According to Aldo Leopold, “There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot.” I am one of those who cannot, and due to the today’s disconnection between humans and nature, there are some who can. Regardless of the field of study or specific area of knowledge, one should never forget the connection between the created world, which is the manmade one, and the real world, which is our natural environment. I believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to pursue holistic wellness and to possess an environmental stewardship.
Throughout my years, at first as a biotechnology student and currently forestry, I have faced myself with several concerns due to environmentally harmful human activities. As an environmental learner and educator, I believe that by using experiential education through a natural environment, I can enhance the participants (including myself) to pursue a holistic wellness and environmental stewardship.
The pursuit of a holistic wellness would be facilitated by reflecting and understanding about personal habits and attitudes. Firstly, the importance of nutritional issues would be taught by explaining the Wolf-Elk-Beaver food chain in the natural environment and relating that with the impact caused by overhunting, overfishing or even improperly farming. Also experiencing a balanced diet by nourishing ourselves in the outdoor setting gives a real-life understanding of this significance. Secondly, holistic wellness refers also to learn and understand about us as a whole through outdoor adventure/experiential/education setting, therefore being aware of our strengths, weaknesses, limits and barriers. Lastly, achieving self awareness, building self esteem, self-discipline and self-confidence, and finally - but not less important - reducing stress...to be continued...

other issues to be discussed in person.
