About Me
I'm a 20 something Philosophy student and aspiring polymath. I am however impeded in this quest by a crippling lack of motor skills whatsoever and a high tendency to procrastinate on interesting, but ultimately useless, trivia. I am open to any and all opinions, though I must confess I am a run-of-the-mill, textbook socialist leaning, home-schooled, widely read and easygoing catholic boy (yes they do exist). This does not mean that I am a hippie (shivers, shivers down my spine). I would be a cynical person but despite my immense sense of sarcasm (as if that escaped you) I love to laugh with people, not at people (sometimes at things that happen to people but no more than that).
I am usually a reserved person, but that's only because when I talk I tend to never shut up and I don't want to offend anybody. Give me half a chance and I'll will talk with you into the wee hours of the morning, especially if there is a drink (or three) in my system. I can be the perfect little house guest, as quiet as a mouse as much as I can be the guy who laughs loudest at a party.
I prefer one to one encounters or small groups, as I like to spend time in interesting conversation. Almost any topic is fine.
I am not a dramatic person, but I appreciate drama (the good kind) and exuberance in other people and even though you get all excited and I just sit there nodding, don't worry, I'm not losing interest, it's just the way I am. On rare occasions I will get visibly excited but those are on a few select topics such as :Terry Pratchett, Tolkien, Scotch, Beer, Stupid things done by Stupid people, politics (see previous), Weird history anecdotes.
I do not possess fashion sense of any kind other than comfortable and easy of access but I love wearing hats.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
If I just wanted to pay nothing for accommodation, I would sleep outside. Traveling is about seeing new places and meeting new people, acting like a tourist is abhorrent to me. I've dealt with that kind of people and I do not want to become one of them. You cannot do new things while staying in your old routine. Couchsurfing would be a great way to achieve this because you travel twice, once towards new places and once more towards new people.
Interests
I'm preparing for a masters in Philosophy, focusing on Habermas and the public sphere. Because of this I have been introduced to the wonderful world of fine spirits and beer. Though my heart will always yearn for a good scotch I have delved into the world of cocktails, I have even devised a couple of failed attempts on my own. A conversation with me can drag on for hours but I also like hiking and camping. Weird anecdotes about almost anything are staples in my intellectual diet. I can also muck about on almost any instrument known to man, provided In have enough practice. I must warn you, I will burst into song randomly, it's just how I roll. Doing a pub crawl is my dream (actually, doing several is the dream but I have to start somewhere) and I will be eternally grateful to anyone who shows me their town.

Music, Movies, and Books
My interest in books spans across genres and languages but I hold a special place in my heart for fantasy and science-fiction. Authors include: Sir Terry Pratchett, J.R.R. Tolkien, Isaac Asimov, Victor Hugo, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, The Scar, by M. & S. Dyachenko, and so many others.
Folk and World music are my go-to tracks. I listen to a lot of Kate Rusby and I try to get my hands on as many Fado cds as I can. I love to listen to almost any genre from Opera to Inuit throat singing (To be fair I only listened to that once) to Queen to wierd eurotrash 80's bands singing about russia.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once ate a fertilized duck egg in the Philippines, it was delicious.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you the subtleties of Canadian French and am eager to learn as many pieces of useless trivia as possible.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my knowledge, which is always expanding and ever open to new possibilities, I can cook, clean, sing, I cannot dance so don't ask, build a fire and fix almost any problem with duck tape. In return I just ask that you show me around your town, beyond the obvious tourist stuff, though I may want to do that too. If you are an interesting person, then I would gladly just spend the day with you in conversation.
