Overview
About Me
I am design student currently on an exchange year abroad in the beer capital of the world Munich, the choice of city is somewhat self explanatory :).
In New Zealand I grew up in a family of jazz musicians and after considering my parents incomes, opted for a marginally more employable career in design, rather than follow in their footsteps.
I'm an easy going dude with not all too much on my plate besides rent and a couple of classes a week, so have plenty of time to drink, talk shite and see interesting things.
If I were to describe myself using a bunch of adjectives some of them would probably be:
Relaxed, openminded, motivated, sociable, nerdy, easy going and skint.
If you're interested I've also made a fair few videos of my travels, which you can see here https://www.youtube.com/user/jtvd94/videos
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Coming from New Zealand, I am unusually tech savvy for a hobbit and so decided to join couchsurfing as a way to meet friendly people, add to my fellowship and have wicked adventures during my time in middle earth.
I previously hosted on AirBnB and had an awesome time meeting and showing people around, unfortunately due to a change in apartment, I no longer have the same space to offer paying guests and so decided to do it for free instead :).
Interests
Pretty much everything besides rightwing politics and the various other forms of negativity.
If I were to highlight a few of my favourites though.
Beer, photography, live music, tea, watching movies, hiking, craft beer, football, pool, chilling, wine, chess, and good conversation.
I also do a bit of photography, if you were interested you can check out some of my older stuff here

Music, Movies, and Books
With music I'm eclectic with a hint of pretentiousness, that being said I'll give anything a listen, some all time favourites would be: Taylor McFerrin (groove), Tigran Hamasyan (jazz), Death Grips (rap), Gjallarhorn (world), AME (techno), Pelorus (electronic), Sonnymoon (pop), Mars Volta (rock), Snarky Puppy (fusion)
I'm also a drummer in a surf-rock duo back home, you can check us out here, (its pretty 'out there' music though so be warned).

Movies follow in a similar vein, I'll watch anything but generally prefer a bit of soul, scripting and plot line.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once chased a thief for six blocks in central Wellington with my dick out after he mugged me mid piss in a public latrine.
Aside from that I've been on exchange to Germany twice, climbed a bunch of mountains and survived for 227 days on a life boat with a bengal tiger.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I have aquired a very particular set of skills that make me a polite, respectful and hopefully interesting guest for any given hosts.
I can also offer:
- A complimentary photography service for portraits, realestate and what ever you want really.
- At least one alcoholic beverage probably more, budget allowing.
- Interesting conversation, though forgive me when I play the devil's advocate
- A range of typical New Zealand meals.
- A range of entertaining stories both true and fictional.
