About Me

Hey Hey! I am Rodrigo, a queer Mexican PhD candidate living in the awesome Groningen
Currently I am about to finish my PhD at the faculty of behavioural and social sciences, at the University of Groningen. My research is about the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth in the child protection system, I can tell you more about it in person ;)
How did I end up in this corner of the world? Well, basically, it was one of those impulsive decisions that I don't regret at all. What started as a temporary adventure to study my masters abroad became my whole new life. I have been living in Groningen for almost 7 years now, and I definitely love it here. While the famous local saying "There is nothing above Groningen" might be a bit of an exaggeration, this city is actually extraordinary.
I did quite a lot of couchsurfing some years ago, during my masters studies. I stopped for some years and right now I feel that in the mindset and conditions to do it again. However, my life is quite busy at the moment so I can only host occasionally and preferably on the weekend. When I host I like to actually spend some time with my guests, getting to know them and their lives. I can be your local guide and you can tell me stories from your hometown.
Meeting new people and traveling are some of my favourite hobbies. If you host me, I would love to explore your city and your lifestyle, meet up your friends and just have a nice time together.
I am nature lover to visit. Lakes, rivers and beaches are my preferred places nature spots.
One peculiar thing about me is that I enjoy walking barefoot. But not only at home, also outside, whenever I can and is possible. Here in Gron, I normally walk barefoot during the spring or summer. Don't worry, if you host me I will most likely wear shoes in your town and at your place.
I do also enjoy city life, going to clubs, bars, museums or just cute and magic corners that only locals now.
What about my lifestyle? I like to do sports, like swimming, cycling and running, Groningen is such a good place to do this. There are plenty of green oasis within and around the city and we have the "city beach", a canal in the city where you can swim and take the sun.
I’m keen to learn all I can from couchsurfers and from my hosts. So if you are good and passionate about something you can be sure I will be thrilled get into it.
I used to be a party animal and my guests would often make it to great parties in Gron, but lately I am more calmed and into long walks in nature or chill cafes in town.
I have experienced lots of new experiences in CS and I have met great people. I think that amidst these crazy times in which we live, CS is as needed as ever.
Blanco is the cute white dog on the pictures. He is the sweetest dog ever! He is 2 years old and I adopted him from an organisation that rescues street dogs in Spain. He is a mix between white shepherd and a podenco. When meeting new people he could be a bit shy and afraid and bark a lot, but after some minutes he will be your best friend.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet wonderful and interesting people and to have fun with them!
Sometimes it’s not easy to travel around the world but maybe the world can knock at your door :)

Music, Movies, and Books
It is always hard to know what type of music I like. According to the last Spotify evaluations I am into pop, R&B, soul, electronica. Amy Winehouse, Shakira, Sia, Coldplay, Khruangbin, Mecano, Stavroz.
Movies: Schlinder's list, Pan's labyrinth. Blue jazmin, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The fight club. Lars von tiers is also one of my favourite directors along others like Park Chan Wood and Stanley Kubrick.
Books: My fav books are non fiction, about topics like society and the planet. "The divide" is a good one, on the causes and mechanisms of social inequalities. The last book I read was "The state of affairs" a fascinating study of infidelity.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Be nude. World Naked Bike Ride Mexico city, riding around Mexico city naked on my bike. So much freedom and fun!
Be a runaway. I left home and I escaped to the beach trying to find peace. I realized you have to find peace within yourself first.
Be engaged. After some students went missing in Mexico, I held a peaceful protest at my university.
Leaving things behind. Leave the city where I lived for 24 years to study a masters in The Netherlands. Getting used to a complete new culture was such a big challenge for me, so far I can say I succeeded!
I want to make sure you read my profile, so if you request a stay at my place, mention "CS is the best thing ever" in your request.
Teach, Learn, Share
I’m a good listener and I would be happy to hear your life story.
