My name is Maarten, I'm a 28 year old male and I'm from the Netherlands. I've travelled quite a bit, mainly to get to know other cultures and to see different places than the one that I grew up in.
I'm a professional musician, I write and perform songs. In the past I've worked in psychiatry.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

I'm just starting out, mainly to get to know the locals and inhabitants of the country I'm visiting from a more personal perspective. I've been invited to peoples homes a couple of times (in Peru and in Uganda) to have a meal with them or to swap stories, and I always loved those moments. I like making new connections and I like to hear about the way that people live. I feel that couchsurfing is a way get to know the country and it's inhabitants better and from a more interesting perspective, compared to when you just do all the touristy stuff

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: The tallest man on earth, Jason Mraz, Passenger, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and lots of other great songwriters from different time periods.
But also Hiphop artist and poets like Mos Def, Nas, K'naan, Talib Kweli etc. I also like rock music and classical music.

As you might be able to tell, I'm broadly interested ;) I also like to hear / experience the local /traditional music in the places that I'm visiting.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

A safari trip trough a national park in Uganda. I got to sit on top of the van, watching amazing scenery and animals. We also walked over the plains to get a more up close and personal look with some of the animals, and I got woken up by a hippo that was grazing very close to our tent in the middle of the night!
