About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Apart from the obvious economic benefits I would very much like to get to know some locals. I'm the kind of person who loves his own country and culture wholeheartedly but who nevertheless gets bored by it and always wants to experience something new. I've also always been fascinated by the idea of having friends all around the world, makes this little planet seem a lot cosier, doesn't it? If I didn't have two schools to attend to I would probably take off and wonder around world for a year or two but alas, it's not possible right now. Therefore I'm forced to make shorter trips and not spending the nights in hotels would be a great step towards achieving a real traveller-mentality.

Interests

As my interests vary from day to day and month to month it's probably easier to say what I'm not interested in. I could say I'm not really a sports fan, that is, I don't watch all the football matches etc, although I have nothing against sports in general, I really enjoy alpine skiing and sailing for example, cycling and swimming don't hurt either.
I'm not interested in anything negative (that even goes to the often dismal journalism of today...) because I try to keep a positive outlook on every situation.
Anything else.. I really think I would give everything new a try before deciding whether it's interesting to me or not.

Music, Movies, and Books

Although I listen to all kinds of music, my favourites throughout the years have been classical, rock and jazz. I'm not really that inclined towards rap and modern dance music. I also avidly like discussing different composers and their works (that goes mostly to classical music though).

I love movies! I mostly watch films that have received high praise (for example in IMDB, the Oscars) but I have to admit that critical acclaim does not always a movie make.
From the classics I definitely love the Godfather trilogy, Star Wars, Sergio Leone's films, an occasional story of romance such as Casablanca or Amélie, then of course Spielberg hits: Schindler's List, Indiana Jones; Scorsese - both his older and newer ones. From the younger generation of directors I adore a lot of Tarantino's work (especially Inglourious Basterds), The Lord of the Rings and actually a lot of recent movies such as Whiplash or Birdman.
Well.. Let's just say that I love movies and discussing them!

As one of my favourite (and probably counterproductive) pastime is watching movies I don't have much time to devote to reading books. That being said, I generally like Russian romantic and realistic literature (Lermontov, Chekhov, Dostoyevsky). Interestingly enough the same goes for music.. (Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich etc). I also like Tolkien and Oscar Wilde. And then some classics such as A Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had the time of my life with my friends in every country I've been to!
One particular experience, however, I'd like to share: I had just walked through half of San Francisco and then over the most touristy attraction in the world - The Golden Gate Bridge - and even though I was very late for a rehearsal, very jetlagged, very tired (and sunburnt), I didn't care at all. I realised that travelling with friends while savouring each moment as you go along is one of the few true joys in life.
It's not only the destination that makes an experience, it's the company!
That's also the biggest reason why I would love try out couchsurfing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everything Estonia-related.
Music - both theory and practice (unless you are a music theory major, then you could educate me instead! ).

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can cook together! Would really love to learn different cuisines and try new tastes. I could also show you some usual Estonian food but it's mostly boring and bland I'm afraid.. I can play a few musical instruments and sing so making some music together is also an idea worth trying out.
I can also enlighten you about life in Estonia though I would probably rather listen to you telling me about your life in your country! ;)
Let's just say that I have more than enough to share.

I also drink ;)
