'Cause you get to know awesome people, who mostly know better inside tips than a dull guidebook. Isn't it is always better to have a local to talk to if you are a stranger in a foreign country? I got to know much more about the native culture, the mentality and the cuisine through couchsurfing than I would have by staying in a hostel/hotel.
