About Me

Hi, outer space! :)

I'm Kuba, I'm really 18 years old (I know, it's not easy for me to accept the fact I look older as well.). Born in the heart of Europe - the Czech Republic. My parents raised me in the eastern industrial part of my fatherland where I went to elementary school.

With 15 years I was accepted at a high school in Havířov in order to continue my studies at a university after 4 years of high-schooling. But I got incredibly lucky and was offered a study opportunity at a bilingual and binational Czech-German high school. For unknown reasons I managed to convince my parents about the prospects of such a change in my life and leaving my home town with 15 years - and they let me to leave the nest.

I spent 2,5 years in Pirna, Germany where I've experieced the best days of my life. With the help from my friends and classmates I understood the German culture and the way they live and enjoy lives. I started feeling more as a German than a Czech guy. In these two and a half years I had to face many language challenges and being a minority in a foreign country. But even though not all the days were perfect (and probably will never be) I can calmly and with pride say that leaving home with 15 years was one of my best decisions so far.

Nothing lasts forever, right? :) After my finals (and actually before them as well) I had to think about my future - what I want, what to do, how to continue my life, etc. And this certain need to move on started filling my heart. You can probably sense now where I'm heading. I moved to Denmark where I've been enrolled as a marketing management student in Aarhus. It's the second biggest city in Denmark with more than 350.000 inhabitants and strong international community. It was a shock in the beginning to move to another country and mainly a new culture. The difference was and is so significant it's hard for me to believe we're still the same human beings and live on the same continent. It's an undescribable experience for my whole life and I hope I'll be able to provide my children with the same possibilities, experiences and adventures I could enjoy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm asking myself this question whenever I open another couchsurfing profile. Everybody has a different answer and I can hardly find one for myself.

I realised it probably when I was in Egypt. I was basically locked down in a hotel complex sitting on my ass for 12 days and suffering from boredom. I'm that kind of a person that needs to experience cultures by getting in touch with them. But observing it from behind a very high fence didn't seem to me to be the best option.

Exchanging different views, different customs and traditions, different cuisines and meeting different people - that's what life is all about. And so is Couchsurfing in my eyes.

Interests

I take my education very seriously as I take a HUGE pride of having the possibility of receiving it for free because I know not everybody is entitled to have the same privilege. Therefore, I consider education as my interest #1.

In the spare time I love to watch a movie or to read a book. I used to play rugby in the Czech Republic for more than 9 years but after an injury I had to stop. This has not erased the bond I have to rugby - I volunteered as a team manager for U19 team and wanted to become a referee.

Before I left the Czech Republic for Germany I used to be a senior boy scout. People might think it's something that belongs to the past but trust me - being scout for 5 years taught me more than all the knowledge you can read in an encyklopedia. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - The Hours, Crash, The Shining, The Others, Iron Lady and basically nearly every movie with Louis de Funès.

Music - Jazz, blues, indie, Florence + The Machine, Adele, Bastille, etc.

Books - The Diary of Anne Frank, Simon Scarrow's books, Ancient Greek philosophy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I do not want to say there is only one because that would be a lie.

For me it makes me feel amazing even when I can help another person with the simpliest task.

Teach, Learn, Share

Můžu tě naučit česky! :) - I can teach you some Czech if you're down for it. You might use that knowledge when you visit the country of great beer, absinth and pretty women.

I'd like to learn another language as I'm very keen in them. So please, I beg you, do it and try to teach me your native language. I'm sure this could make us a lot of fun.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share another point of view on all the topics out there in the real world and a person to go party with.

I'm perfectly sure there are more things I can share with you but this is not easy to describe. We'll see about it and maybe you can tell me afterwards what I shared with you. :)
