About Me

Hey! My name is Paweł, i'm a photographer, sociologist and art educator. I do commercial stuff as a photographer and journalist, and I work on photographic documents. Also, I'm an visual sociologist, and I'm responsible for number of workshop programmes as a lecturer and teacher. DIY / zine culture enthusiast. A punk rocker at heart. You can check my work on www.pawelstarzec.com or www.starzec.tumblr.com :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I do travel a lot, sometimes to new destinations. Couchsurfing seems like a place to find some nice people to hang around or help each other. I like the idea of brief encounters with vivid people, since I did a lot of hitchhiking.
I can host as well, but for now my place isn't very spacious - but hey, I can be a guide or a helping hand!

Interests

Photography, visual culture, photobooks, document, non-fiction literature, post punk obscurities, modern history, dogs.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I do listen for a lot of independent music, mostly noise/postpunk/new wave/punk/industrial. I love digging for obscure stuff, and most of my beloved bands is dead for ages.
I would recommend checking: Yugoslavian postpunk, British 80's, Amphetamine Reptile label, everything produced by Steve Albini, local Wroclaw's punk scene, early the Ex albums.

Movies - Easier, for now I would say:
Serious one: 'Pi'
Light one: 'Napoleon Dynamite'
A no-brainer: 'Johnny Mnemonic'
Polish one: 'Miś'

Books - I mostly read non-fiction. I do work a lot with photobooks - the best one is On this site by Joel Sternfeld.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Since highschool years i'm travelling a lot, with sleeping rough, squatting and hitchiking included. I'm a well established storyteller, so there's a lot to be told if you want. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a photographer and a photo editor, and I teach that. Besides that I can really do stuff - from helping you cleaning the attic and moving heavy stuff to recreating your portfolio and discussing sociology.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
