About Me

Hi! My name is Gyöngyi (half Hungarian and half Mexican), I normally live in Monterrey, Mexico, but right now I am currently in my exchange year in Europe (studying Biotechnology) and I am trying to take advantage of this year to travel to as many places as I can.
I am easy-going, funny (at least I like to think I am), extroverted, and a bookworm. I like to take a lot chances, search for adventure, and overall try to make new experiences everyday.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think the reason we sign up for CS is always culture exchange. This platform gives us the unique opportunity to really experience the place you are visiting and its people, which is the best way of traveling.
Couchsurfing is the best way to really get to know any place you visit, because you get insider tips (which are the best!) and you don't only get to travel to amazing places but also make a lot friends along the way. I also think it's the best way to meet people with your same interests (traveling and getting to know new cultures). In this last year I've used CS a couple of times while traveling with friends and I think those were one of the best experiences I've had during my exchange year so far :)

Interests

Like most people here, I love to travel. I also really like to bake and cook, dance (Salsa mostly), and (believe it or not) study (even if most of my last year has shown otherwise). Another big interest I have is learning new languages, so whenever I have the opportunity I try to take a new language or at least learn a couple of words.

Related to my career, I really like to be involved in research (mainly plant biology and cancer development) and I enjoy greatly participating in entrepreneurship competitions and I am very involved with social entrepreneurship programs in Mexico.

When I am visiting a new city I really like to immerse myself in the history of each place because through this and its people, is how you really get to know a place. So, if you have any interesting history knowledge it would be very much appreciated if you share it :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Impossible for me to decide on only one favorite book. I love them all, and I think the same can be said for movies, but I am mostly a book person.
I think my music taste is all over the place, because I can listen (and watch) opera, traditional Mexican and Hungarian music, classical (mostly piano and violin), Pop, sometimes some Rap, Norteño (Mexican), Banda (Mexican), Salsa (this is my life, and here I include Bachata, Cumbia, and Danzón), Country, and Reggaeton (I absolutely love it, most people don't get my level of addiction to this genre).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to the Canadian Rockies and climbed the mountains (as far up as the trail allowed). Best view ever, the glaciers are very beautiful and the National Parks in Canada are very well-kept so camping there can be a great experience for anybody.
On January I had a road-trip with a friend and we mainly visited Game of Thrones' filming sets and it was AMAZING. I really love the saga and we even got to sneak into one of the filming sets as they were constructing it and we also saw all the costumes and props, and two days later the actors were actually filming there. I think that will be one of my best trips ever.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some Mexican candies (if I haven't eaten all of them yet, I'm sorry but I am addicted to them), good conversation, great stories, some language if you are up for it :)
