About Me

Hello!

I am Ticiana, a 22-year old Brazilian girl from Rio de Janeiro who is going to spend one year as a college exchange student in Aachen, Germany. I like, most of all, meeting new people, making friendships and am always looking to have a good time, either hanging out with friends or simply relaxing, I love music, sing and play some piano, and appreciate all kinds of art. I speak Portuguese, English, German and Italian and am always looking forward to explore new cultures! What I mostly look forward to when I am in a new country is really this cultural interchange and the possibility of learning so many new things from a different land and its peoples.

I love traveling and hope to explore Europe from side to side during this year!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well, let's just say I find the idea of Couchsurfing quite amusing, really. I mean, such a real and huge organisation for hosting travelers for free, without any profit purposes and the sole objective of making contact to human people, learn, grow, have a nice time and just enjoy the best of what the world offers you. Isn't that amazing? I wanna be a part of it too, and have the opportunity to also grow as a person in any country I'm in, with anybody I'm with, anywhere in the world.

Interests

Well, let's just say music is my biggest passion. I am a passionate singer and I also play piano, and I am interested whenever music is involved, really. I've also been raised in a very musical family. The first sounds I've heard as a child came from my father's saxophone, and I remember 'til this day his notes from Misty, by Erroll Garner. That is where my interest for jazz originally came from, I guess. My brothers play also guitar, bass, keyboards and playing together is our favorite family hobby. Whenever there are reunions, birthdays or whenever we're together (my brothers don't live with me), we always end up making some music. And that's like my vital feeding - it is part of me and something I can't live without. Oh by the way, we are just amateurs - but that doesn't make it less passionate.

Dancing. Whenever there is dance, there is fun. When I'm at a party and the music is good, I can't help it but start to dance, even alone, even at random music. Interested in Samba, Forró and Salsa and just spontaneously dance to whatever is playing. Have taken also Ballet, Jazz and Tap lessions but some of then where really a while ago :P.

Musical theater. I've joined an amateur musical theater group in Brazil for a year, and we presented the Broadway musical In the Heights. There I acted, sang and danced. It was a fantastic and a lifetime-worthy experience. Hope to do again some more activities involving musical theater one day.

Literature. I really like any type of knowledge, really, and literature is just as knowledge for the head as it's knowledge for the heart and soul. Because it's art. I always wish I had much more time to read. And I really enjoy poetry. And novels from the Romantic and Realistic eras.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: PINK FLOYD (loyal fan, expert, follower, etc.!), Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Yes, The Who, Beatles, Yes, Rolling Stones, Jazz: Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Julie London, Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, and works of George Gershwin and Cole Porter; various saxophone and trumpet players (hear more than know who plays what, actually); Brazilian music: MPB in general - Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Joao Bosco, Chico Buarque, Novos Baianos, Gilberto Gil, Elis Regina; Bossa Nova - Tom Jobim, Joao Gilberto; etc.

Movies: Dead Poets' Society, Before Sunrise/Sunset, Clockwork Orange, La vita è bella, La Grande Bellezza, Cinema Paradiso, Cabaret. Could put more but that's what I first remember right now.

Books: eclectic. Really enjoy Brazilian writer Machado de Assis, and find Dom Casmurro a masterpiece; Jorge Amado; poetry from Romantic era; Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream, from Shakespeare; Madamy Bovary from Gustave Flaubert; some french Symbolist poetry (want to read more); Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Demian by Hermann Hesse (really, these books changed my life). Want to explore German literature and poetry while I am here in Germany.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Have been to Florence, and that is what any human being should do. You will feel like it's the capital of the earth and human legacy.

Have been to New Orleans and saw some of the best music on earth, and the roots of jazz. Bourbon Street is history of music and America's mixing of culture burning with life until today. New Orleanian cuisine is also the best I've tried so
far.

Have been to Pompeii. Undescribable sound of silence, and inner peace. Magical. These are the only feelings I can put down in words.

Starred in a musical play, even though it was just an amateur group. That was undescribable and confirmed that art is actually all that is in me in a way beyond words.

Sang 99 Luftballons in German in front of 150+ people as a surprise for my father's 50th birthday. Was so nervous I actually felt sick after but it was my first "stage" appearance singing and very defining for what would come next regarding everything involving public.

Saw Roger Waters' The Wall Tour. Best spectacle on earth and best or second best experience I've had in my life.

Saw David Gilmour last month for the first time here in Germany. He is my biggest idol ever and the person I most admire when it comes to music, I think. The legend, and the person I most needed to see live ever. Best or second best experience I've
had in my life.
