Unfortunately under huge political presure in 2004 the borders opened.There is a drug trafficking from the north to south and sometimes prostitutes from the whole world due to the lack of control and the difficult political situation in the island exploiting the needs of the tourists or local.
Not everybody with nice cars or houses are the most hospitable. Many of them even in our legalized south side of Cyprus (The Republic of Cyprus ) run illegal activities. Be careful and do not hesitate to contact me for any further information. If you are planning to stay in illegal area you are acting against UN resolutions(Somebodys house was taken by violence and now a high military office is staying there) .Good luck! You will have problem with 190 countries in the world!
