About Me

My name is Anton. I'm a young scientist, engineer, and adventurer.

Typically, I spend a regular bunch of my hours in the laboratory doing experiments and research, but on free days or weekends I like to go backpacking and adventuring somewhere beyond the Metro!

I prefer adrenaline-pumping and exciting activities, and so adventures where I do something fantastic are awesome. I like getting lost, I like hiking and jumping off heights, and I like meeting interesting people who can bring something new to the table. Activities that allow me to immerse myself in the richness and novelty of a culture I'm not familiar with are cool, too. Museums, temples, historical sites are also welcome additions my itinerary. Generally, I just like learning and doing new things. Just to clarify though: I am adventurous, but I calculate risks and am never reckless.

If you're cool and you think we're cool, then I hope to meet you soon!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm an avid reader and try to learn everything I can (as long they're worthwhile). Still, I prefer classics and (auto)biographies of people I can learn from.

Three of my favourite books are: Les Miserables, The Brothers Karamazov, and Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I like to do a lot of crazy, wonderful things. A few of the cool things I have done:

- I swam in a warm lake in the crater of a volcano! The other half of the lake was boiling!
- (Getting lost is a hobby.) I have gotten lost beyond 12 mn in Singapore, Geneva, and Vienna.
- In one adventure, I was stranded once in a deep, narrow canyon. It began to rain heavily, and the river was rapidly rising, threatening to drown us. We made it out. It's an amazing story you should ask me if ever we meet in person. :)
- I'm a scientist. I think doing experiments and handling radioactive materials counts as pretty cool, right?
- I climbed two mountains within 24 hours (Mont Saleve and Mont Blanc).
- I have jumped several waterfalls and heights.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am not a dull or boring person.
I do have a lot of interesting stories and exciting experiences I can share with people. For one, I am a science and engineering graduate, which makes me quite a unique couchsurfer. I don't think it's every day that people get to meet a physicist and engineer - and I know how to keep things exciting!

First thing on my mind right now that I can share is my fascination for space and the night sky. I've memorized a lot of the constellations, and can maybe bring people camping or to a roof of a building, and just spend the night stargazing and pointing out constellations with my powerful laser pointer (not the ordinary kind).

This aside, I have a bunch of exciting stories from my travels and adventures to different places. I can share those, as well a glimpse of my own culture and what it's like to live in the Philippines.
