About Me

Hello! My name is Sofia Vazquez Ruta and traveling is my passion <3

I am 20 years old and currently studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence. I was born and raised in California but I spent a few years living in Mexico City. I love learning about cultures, seeing new places, and trying new things. I am still pretty new on Couchsurfing, but so far I have had great experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling and when I first heard of Couchsurfing I thought it was brilliant. It is a great way to travel on a budget, get a real feel of the area and also meet new people.

I've met people that have couchsurfed and have tons of great stories to tell. They even still keep in touch! Hopefully I'll gain great stories to tell as well :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE music! I can talk about it all day but to sum it up, I listen to a bit of the good stuff of every genre. For exmaple, house, rock, ska, reggae, classical, rap, salsa, indie, etc! I am really open minded when I hear music and I am really into going to concerts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I will tell the story of something amazing I have done even though I may not remember much. However, I know the story pretty well since my parents tell it all the time! My family and I go camping all the time and one time we went when I was 6 years old really close to Yosemite. As every camper knows, it gets very dark at night since there is no light to be seen. Since I was very young at the time, my family decided to leave me in the car while they went to set up the tents and fire. Every couple of minutes my dad or my mom would scream over to me "Are you okay Sofia?" or "What are you doing Sofia?" I would keep responding, "I am fine, I'm just feeding the bunnies." They didn't think much of it because I was young and they thought I was just playing with my toys. 30 minutes later and after several calls asking if I was fine, they finally came back to the car to get me. They couldn't believe their eyes. I, a little 6 year old girl was feeding grapes to a whole family of raccoons with my bare hands. 8 HUGE raccoons that were bigger than me. My parents were terrified because it is very common for raccoons to be aggressive especially since they were wild, hungry, and big. I had no idea what I was doing was dangerous and I got up calmly and walked towards my family and told them "I told you I was feeding the bunnies."

I have many stories to tell, but this is my favorite one :)

I am hoping that this year that I am traveling in Europe I can gain a bunch of amazing stories,
