About Me

MAY 2023 UPDATE

I’ll be in Spain and UK all the time so please keep this in mind when you request to be hosted.

.

Hello everyone! It's Asporça 🙌 a world citizen holding a dual national passport. I'm both Cypriot and Turkish -living most of the year in Cyprus and the rest in Turkey & UK - planning to move to the UK. Although I became a member of CS in 2015, I deleted the app and years passed. I hope to make a very good start this time again and become a cultural bridge by making good friendships. I'm a person who has been playing violin for about 20 years, loves to cook and eat, reads a lot of books, obsessed with fashion and design, is interested in learning foreign languages and foreign cultures, communicates with people effectively, and loves to laugh and enjoy. Discovering new places whenever I can, learning about cultures I don't know or hear about is just one of my best habits. Even though I am very attached to my own culture, I like to add something from the cultures I have learned into my life. Sport and cooking are basic parts of my life. I've been doing sports approximately for 8 solid years and cooking like lifetime.🤤 I'd love to be humble about it, but cooking is like my cardio. I get excited like blazes about cooking, scanning foreign sources, getting recipes from other people and learning about it... (And eating as a very final and the most enjoyable step.) If you have a common sense for food to share with me, you never want the topic to be closed! 🤌 I add smt about cooking in 'my home' section, let's see if you'll have a look at and be able to consider the tiniest request.

Also, my passion for aesthetic including definitely visual arts, music, photography, fashion and dogs (🤓) is very evident and is what makes me who I am.

There are funny, talkative, happy, excited, honest, cheerful and friendly positive people around me, and I want every new person I meet to be like that because that's also who I am.

OK, I'M SURE YOU'RE OPEN MINDED AND EASY GOING PERSON BUT PLEASE SAY SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHILE MENTIONING YOURSELF.

PS: Just say ‘hi / hello there / wassup / how are you? / wanna hang out? / let’s meet…’ and nothing more, you’re gone. That’s my CS language if you’re that rude, if your sentences are that short and not about CS and you’re ok with it without adding anything about CS and don’t understand what this place is for.

*For more, please check my home rules on ‘my home’ part and take a look at carefully.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is a place where I want to exchange cultures, open doors to different worlds and remind us that we are all citizens of the world. This notion enables the transfer of many values such as languages, food, conversations, family ties, habits, hobbies and traditions from one end of the world to another in a more practical and healthy way.

I SPECIFICALLY state; this is not a dating site and I'm not looking for a lover. Those who are looking can try their luck on other platforms.

Interests

I am so interested in gastronomy that I research and try to be aware food cultures from all over the world. I am very confident in my skills for baking and cooking and I believe I have a well taste, so naturally I love to talk about food. I am a happy person, usually spending 80% of my day singing and 100 % listening to music. I think there are a few more paragraphs you’re going to read but now that you are reading this, you can drop your favorite song or songs to the message that you may indicate that you’d like me to host you as a guest or be hosted. So I can understand that your offer is not a template for anyone but you read what I wrote on my profile. Thanks in advance. I normally live with my dog but have been visiting her at my fams for a while now. I’ve been playing violin for about 20 years and I am very interested in art & aesthetics. I also wrote a few books and editorials on diplomacy, foreign policy, international relations based on my educational and academic background. To sum; I love exploring life believing that every person is a new world and each world should be explored. There is a belief of mine in psychology; If your attitude changes, your life will change. I am someone who tries to live life with this motto, positive feelings and curiosity.

Generally, I'm always glad to share our traditions of Turkish and Cypriot culture, my experiences in the places I have visited, to learn new things, and to get lost in the infinity of knowledge. Thanks to CS, this happiness is a non-stop one. I expect to see the same from the people around me; definitely from you.

This part should be in the ‘my home’ section, but I had to write it here because of the character limit. I don't like that word at all, but I've seen too many freeloaders on this platform. I can't stand these people. If you want to do something beyond the standards like showering every day, waiting for me to cook breakfast and meals without doing nothing but standing or just sitting there, leaving the lights on, finishing 5 toilet papers in 1 day… please find someone else to be hosted. CS is a sharing platform and its underlying values are highly meaningful spiritual gains. However, we should not forget that everything we use in the houses we stay is a financial expense for the landlord. I support that the host should make their guests feel like they are at home, or at least strive for this, but I think that the guests should show the same care to the house and the hosts. Wastefulness is very contrary to my character, please be my guests understanding this. I’m against too much consumption, if you are such a person, either find another host or make a contribution to the house in return for your extreme expenses. This could be anything like rolls of toilet paper, a box of eggs, a pound of cheese, a bottle of shampoo… I believe you know what I’m saying. If you've read this far, thank you for your patience, I'm really baffled. After reading my home section, make your decision and if everything is ok with you, I’m also ready to host you. 👋

Music, Movies, and Books

Although I generally like to listen to calmer music, my music preference is very wide. Blues, Jazz, classic, lo-fi, house, soul are my faves. Also, ‘türkü’ -kinda folk music- that belong to Turks and Cypriots are indispensable for me. When my mood is low, if I'm sad, I’ll probably be listening to some ‘türkü.’ Here's one of my favs; https://youtu.be/O1IAn0nYiIU On the other hand, European cafe musics relax me. If I am energetic, have a good start to the day and feel good, up-tempo songs make me feel even better. While starting the day, I definitely turn up the volume. However, I don't like Arabesque music at all. (I guess that's my only red line when it comes to music.)

Watching movies is like finding a treasure in deep. It’s really hard to choose the one. But maybe La vita e Bella, The Best Offer, Schindler’s List, Being There, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Brother’s Keeper, Nuit and Brouillard, Her, Petite Maman…

My ultimate, top book is Moby Dick. Books are my key interests, really enjoy reading.
Diplomacy, Of mice and men, The grapes of wrath, For whom the bell tolls, Ulysses, Portnoys Complaint, Tutunamayanlar, Tehlikeli Oyunlar, Yalnızız, Germinal, Man's search for meaning, To kill a mockingbird, Thus spoke Zarathustra... are also one of the books that had a long-lasting impact on me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quitting my job 9/5 and living my best life. Yeeeea what a crazy thing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you many traditional recipes from Turkish and Cypriot cuisine and if I'm ok that time maybe how to play a violin and I can sing a song with you. Besides, that's for sure I can talk about history, politics and recent agenda of the countries I've been living if you're curious.

I am always excited to learn new languages, new genres of music, to know where the vintage shops are in your city, to bake different cuisins I didn't have an idea about and I can be happy with any knowledge you can give me about photography, sports, politics and music.

I would also like to hear about diverse memories and CS experiences you have had. Cliché but sharing is really caring.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Comfy home, funny chitchat, unknown songs, new cultural values, food recipes, key locations in hometown and happy face! If you're lucky enough, you can see my dog too!
