MY TRAVEL PLAN
I'm planning on doing an ultra-light cycling tour during my mid-semester break of uni. I will be cycling roughly from and going Brisbane - Toowoomba - Warwick - Wiangaree - Murwillumbah - Brisbane

In a couple words I am active, adventurous and open-minded!
In some longer words my name is Sjoerd van Oort, I'm currently 20 and I'm Dutch. I've spent most of my live, especially that I can remember, as an expat. I was born in the USA where I lived in 2 states for 7 years. After that I moved with my family to Chengdu, China where I lived for 6 years, and then moved to Beijing where I lived for 4 years. I'm currently in my 3rd year of studying Ecology at UQ in Brisbane. I've had friends from all over and love exploring what the world has to offer.
A key part of who I am is that you will never find me relaxing on a beach as a holiday. I will always be doing something whether it's hiking, cycling, swimming or just exploring the area.
TRAVELING:
My favourite way to travel is through bicycle touring. I've done 7 major tours spanning 8 countries, the longest being 2 months (3200km) in the US and the fastest having cycled from Brisbane to Sydney in 5 days (1000km).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet new people and share experiences! I love chatting about past and future activities and personally much prefer the social experience of Couchsurfing over staying at a campsite or motel.
Interests
Cycling, hiking (and just walks), scuba diving, nature, photography (instagram @sjoerdvanoort), animals, gaming and bottle cap collecting!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My cycling tour in the US. The longest of my cycling trips, I started off in Salt Lake City, Utah and bounced around Utah visiting plenty of national parks along the way. I stayed at Zion, Bryce, Arches and the Canyonlands national park before cycling down to the Grand Canyon and finally ending in Las Vegas.
50 days and 3200km later I was left with an amazing experience and an immense respect for the power of the desert.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Experience and stories or just a friendly chat! If I feel knowledgeable enough about something then I love to chat or debate about it. And when it comes to experiences it's feels great to trade experiences and give or receive advice if wanted.
Also happy to cook or help in some way as repayment :)
