About Me

Hi! This profile is for me (Benjamin) and my girlfriend (Kayleigh). All the way through high school we had the dream of seeing the world when we were finally free. And so we did! After receiving our diploma's, we bought a classic volkswagen campervan and just went.

We are 18 and 20 years old, but we don't act our age. Yes, we do like the occasional party, but we are more into nature, reading and spirituality. Currently, we are au-pairing with a baby and a toddler!

I have my own website where I like to post articles about things that interest me. One of the reasons I have really come to love travel is that you get into a kind of zone where it is really easy to just sit somewhere with a notebook and pour your thoughts out on the paper. Writers block is impossible when you live so free.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A campervan can get a little bit crampy when you're living in it for months. It's nice to live in a house from time to time. We also like meeting new people, and couchsurfing is great for that purpose. We have come to appreciate the expected luxuries of modern life deeply through living on the road, and thus, we are very happy with a simple shower, bed, and electricity from time to time.
Lastly, we are looking for a job to up our travel finances a bit, and that's easier when you have a place to stay. As such, we would like to stay for about a month, if such a long time is accepted by the couchsurfing community.

Interests

I love philosophy, but for me, it's less about the existing canon and more about the process of philosophical thinking and writing. I'm interested in ancient wisdom. I love expressing my thoughts through writing. I have a blog where I write on the topics that you see here. I also have some poetry. I'm currently working on a self-help book about modern addictions, as well as a philosophical work about consciousness (and some other stuff).
My girl Kayleigh really adores pets, especially dogs and cats, but really any animal. We both like to read and we love nature. I'm very much into personal and spiritual development, as well as healthy eating and exercise. Some time ago, I had a lot of adrenal crashes because of adrenal fatigue syndrome, which is what you get when you have experienced too much stress. These travels are really helping me get my health back, but eating right is still very important for me, as my system is a bit weak.
Lastly, you may notice that I have included cannabis and psychedelics as interests, please don't be turned off by that if you are. I have only included them because "common knowledge" is very wrong on these topics. They are amazing tools that can help heal and grow a person. Cannabis is helping me heal emotional trauma from my childhood. If anything, it is only good to be open and honest about these things, so as not to keep things the way they are, as things used to be worse for gay people too, for example. The only reason that changed is because people dared to talk about it.

Music, Movies, and Books

We have no favourite music genre. We like any song that is good. We would love to hear what you are into.
favourite movie: Interstellar.
Books: For Kayleigh that would be Harry Potter. I like spiritual and personal growth books, as well as intriguing fiction, like Paulo Coelho.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We have traveled for 2,5 months on about a 1000 euros, including gas and monthly bills. Yeah, those were cheap times. We loved it. We are still cheap, that's why we're here. Our parents could barely support us financially on this journey, so we did everything ourselves, bought everything ourselves, which we are pretty proud of as teenagers/adolescents from low-income families.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about sugar, healthy eating, personal and spiritual development, science, online business, writing, etc. I seem to know a lot about a lot of things. I'll have something valuable to say on most topics.
Kay gets enthusiastic by big topics, things that really matter. And she is a very friendly person that you can share anything with, even difficult things, and she will always know how to help you deal with it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Extensive knowledge about my interests, travel stories, stories from back home in the Netherlands, opinions on heated topics, some good jokes ("silly puns" -Kayleigh) and otherwise meaningful conversations.
