About Me
Three days ago my brother booked me an impromptu flight to visit him here in Tokyo. He lives in Australia and we rarely get to see each other. I have fallen in love with it here and want to stay!
I am a musician from London and for the past three years I have played the violin in rock band, The Mispers, for whom I also song write, and sing. It has been an adventure- touring Europe and America- and I have become accustomed to living out of a suitcase! But I am ready for a new life chapter, and have secured a place to study an MMus in ethnomusicology starting in 2016, at SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies, in London). This next year is one for learning and transition.
Japan has been a part of my life since I can remember. Age 4, I started learning the violin with the Suzuki method. There is a wonderful community for it in London, of which I am still a part of. I watch lessons by my old teacher, at a school in North London where every child learns a string instrument, and then help with their practice. My mother is now a Suzuki guitar teacher in Australia. Dr Suzuki's outlook on teaching, to "nurture by love" has been a guiding principle in my life.
As well as being musical, my family is international (English, Belizian, Australian and Dutch) and I enjoy language, travel and culture. I studied French and Film as an undergrad at UCL and speak French and Spanish.
I have a flight booked back to London on Monday, which I will miss if I can find somewhere to stay while I look for a job here! Any help will be greatly appreciated!
