About Me

Hello,
I was born in Colorado, USA. I wasn't always adventurous. My father would take me camping, but I was more interested in my video games. As I grew, so did my interest in the outdoors. Camping and backpacking are my favorite things to do. Going back to nature has been a wonderful experience. I'm not shy of the city-life either. I enjoy going out to clubs, restaurants and bars.
I studied and graduated with a degree in economics, but often wondered why the world is the way it is. I've been yearning to challenge my, errr America's way of thinking how the world ought to be.
I a

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling was something I though only the privileged could do. For years I told myself that I would travel if I had more money and more time. The truth, I came to realize that I have time. I have some money. So, I decided to quit my job (well, not until the new year) and travel for a year.
My reason for travel is for obvious reasons, to break away from the routine and to be open to experience new things. It's also academic. Sometime in my life, I'd like to return to school and pursue my masters, and believe travel will help me gain a better perspective and help me answer the difficult questions of my field.
I hope to meet wonderful people, people who are open to sharing stories, going out or staying in. The world is for the travelers!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pretty open to music. I especially enjoy electronica, rock, classical and instrumental.
I like thought-provoking movies and comedies.
Books are the same, I enjoy reading the Western philosophical classics...okay, maybe enjoy is a bit exaggerated.
I like science-fiction, adventure and non-fiction, historical based.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first backpacking trip:
My best friend and I decided that we wanted to go backpacking. We chose the Grand Canyon in Arizona as our first ever backpacking location. It wasn't apparent at first, but our over zealous ambition and lack of experience, turned into one of the most difficult struggles I've ever faced.
On our drive down, we decided that the South Rim would be a better location. However, when we arrived there were no sites available. So, we turned around and drove 3 more hours to the North Rim. By this time, it was almost sun down and we still had a 7mile hike between us and our campsite. 7 miles! That's a breeze! With 50lbs on our backs and a 7 mile journey, we went. The canyon abyss was ready to swallow us with each step. My legs began to shake under the weight of the backpack; and the steep grade didn't help either. After hours of hiking into what seemed an eternity, we finally made it to a sign..."Cottonwood campsite-3 more miles." GRRRRR! I was furious, ready to set up campsite right here and wait for the sun to greet us the next day; but the creepy crawly scorpions and centipedes were reason enough to keep hiking. We fought through and finally overcame this challenge we set out to face, finally making to our campsite...I never felt happier!
