I'm a classically trained singer in my mid 20s, from NZ. I made the big move to Berlin last year and am currently holding down a day job while soaking up the amazing European culture and try to get my singing career off the ground!

When I'm not singing... I read a lot (mostly fantasy) and try to fit in travel when I can. I've been trying to knit the same jumper for about two years....

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I was travelling last year for auditions, I met so many amazing, people, which would never had happened without Couchsurfing and Airbnb. If you ask me, the best way to get to know a place and culture is to stay with locals.

What I've seen so far of Europe has taken my breath away. There is history and art literally everywhere (!)

Interests

My two greatest passions are music and languages. English is the only language I speak fluently, but I studied German and French at school and have been working hard on my German since moving here!

I have always sung - at home, in the shower, in choirs, on a stage, in fields (a lot of fields recently 😄)

Everything worthwhile takes practise. 😊

Classical music of all sorts: choral music, opera, Shostakovich, Stravinsky etc.

Jazz - I love all the old stuff, especially my namesake, the one and only Ella Fitzgerald. Also Doris Day, Blossom Dearie, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan...

I also like Robyn, Empress Of, Regina Spektor, Ben L'Oncle, Camille, Leon Bridges, Sam Cooke, Amy Winehouse.

Books are great. I've never really graduated to grown up books, I still love Harry Potter and books about dragons and magic! 😝

English - is my mother tongue and I am a very patient teacher so I would be glad to help with your English

Pronunciation - of Italian, French, English (comes with training as an opera singer)

Music theory - as a musician and sometimes singing teacher I am also good at teaching music theory - just don't ask me to play the piano!

I am also a professionally trained singer so if you need a wedding singer or entertainment, I am well equipped! 😄

What I Can Share with Hosts

I speak English fluently and would love to share what I know in exchange for German.

I am a friendly and bubbly person underneath the shy exterior and I would love to get to know some interesting people and share some stories.
