About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To connect! Ever since I first heard of Couchsurfing, I have been curious about the community and how it all works. After traveling , I decided that Couchsurfing is really something I should be a part of. I value diversity and feel that there is no better way to connect and immerse yourself in a new country and culture than to be hosted by someone who already lives there. Make new friends, learn something new and maybe open up others to new experiences or ideas - it really is a great way to travel! Until my next escapade, I hope to connect with the local CS Community and meet some new, interesting and like minded folks (Edmontonians and travelers alike). I hope to host as soon as possible!

Interests

Well, travel for one.
Developing a passion for food, and learning more and more about sustainable agriculture (not one for the kitchen, this is also forcing me to cook more!). Hoping to plant my own veggie garden this summer!
Surfing! (although I would hardly call myself a surfer, as I seem to spend more time paddling around and underwater than actually riding waves, but refuse to give up)
Writing. I love the art of pen on paper, and am developing some writing skills (and ideas) I hope to take traveling with me.
I enjoy live music, reading, and being outdoors, even if for no reason at all but to just sip on a coffee or a cold beer. Nothing beats being around a campfire under a sky of falling stars, with loon calls echoing across the lake....

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy many genres of music, but have a history of enjoying some good ol' punk rock (NOFX, Rancid, etc.) but seem to be mellowing out in my old age, and now find myself more often than not indulging in a lot of folk and bluegrass. Canadian group (BC girls!) The Be Good Tanyas are a top favorite, along with Xavier Rudd, and Lord Huron. Alberta Cowboy, Ian Tyson, will always have a special place in my heart. And of course my beloved Florence and the Machine.

Movies... Not that I don't enjoy a good movie, I just never seem to make the time to watch them. I prefer documentaries or movies based on true stories. I lean towards dramas and enjoy a good paranormal scare every once in awhile.

Books... I could write an endless list. I find myself reading memoirs and true accounts of human struggle and stories of survival and perseverance, especially those of females in the Middle East and Africa (Prisoner of Tehran, Tears of the Desert and most recently A House in the Sky). I adore author Jenny Lawson. The Book Thief and anything by Wally Lamb finds it's way onto my bookshelf. I intend to start reading more classical literature (A Tale of Two Cities being the first on that list)
