About Me

Hello :)

My name is Kat. I'm going to keep this short and sweet until I can type on a computer.

I'm frpm northern Virgina, attended university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where I studied Textile design. I then travelled for a brief time and ended up farming in Tucson for three years where I met my husband (yes, of course there's a story in there). My husband and I were married in March, left our jobs and Tucson in September to travel around South America for a year.

I love to explore new places, to be outside. I enjoy seeing the beauty and magic in both the simplicity and complexity of nature.

I love to create art in my spare time. Weaving. Illustration. Jewelry making. Painting. Sculpture with found objects. Dancing. I love to collaborate with other artists.

I love a wide variety of music.

I love to read.

I love to cook and to eat. My husband and I are primarily vegetarian, though we will eat chicken and fish if we know the animals were raised or caught humanely and /or sustainably.

I am learning to speak spanish. Mi esposo habla español.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been on couch surfing previously and had wonderful experiences traveling around the United States. I met really wonderful people and I am looking forward to meeting people and sharing wonderful experiences with

Interests

Art and all the masks it wears. I love to share mine with other artists, I love to trade and barter.
The outdoors. I love to backpack and camp, especially when it takes me far away from modern civilizations. I enjoy rock climbing and being around water (lakes, rivers or the sea). Spending time outside makes me feel connected to all of life, I treasure those moments.
Good food and good ingredients (growing them, cooking them and eating them).
Books, reading them and learning to bind them.
My husband and I are very interested in permaculture and economic construction.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy a wide variety of music.
I've been singing Chet Fakers version of No Diggi tu by Backstreet a lot lately. The original as an EP was the first CD I ever owned. The immediate next two were Alanis Morisette and Nirvana.
Here's a spectrum.... Gillian Welch, Jolie Holland and Joanna Newsom. First Aid Kit, William Elliot Whitmore and Monsters of Folk. Tool, Nirvana and The Mad Conductor. Led Zeppelin, The Decemberists and The Shins.

I love to watch movies. My favorite is called Mirrormask. I love anything by Miyazaki and Wes Anderson. I enjoy old classics. I do not like gory horror movies, but I like thrillers.

My favorite book is The Book of Flying by Keith Miller

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quit my job, put all my things into storage and travel around South America.
