About Me

Originally from Castricum, Netherlands, now traveling though Australia on a WHV. Will fly to Cairns mid October to buy a van and start the East Coast.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hoping to learn more about the country by getting to know the people in it.

Interests

Big fan of rugby union, played it a bit myself. I'm getting into Australian footy though. 😉 I chose Richmond as my team. Got to love that black and yellow, just like Rochester and Castricum. 🖤💛🖤💛

Love going out, socializing and discovering new beers. Also into festivals, concerts and stand up comedy.

I'm into the outdoors and love to go hiking. I don't expect to be swept off my feet by the big cities of Australia. National parks any day of the week please.

I watch way too many series and anything science fiction really grabs my interest. Big Star Wars and Marvel fan.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I listen to music almost 24/7, if I'm not listening to an audiobook or watching some guilty pleasure TV series. Some of the bands I love: Arlie, Bad Sounds, The Flatliners, Wolf Alice, Courtney Barnett, Frank Turner, Daughter, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and many, many more. I tune in to Pinguin Radio a lot back home, now very much in love with Triple J.

Books: I've recently read the Annihilation series and the Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett. Also finished the Bobiverse series and some other books from by Dennis E. Taylor. The Bobiverse series is awesome! Working through the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson now and just started Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey. The series The Expanse was based on that last one. So yeah, big science fiction / dystopian future fan.

Artemis from Andy Weir is also awesome, just like The Martian was. Noonday Demon by Andrew Solomon used to be my bible. Also read The Road Beneath My Feet by Frank Turner because he is AWESOME. Started his new book as well. I like reading autobiographies from rugby players like Jonny Wilkinson, Gareth Thomas and Richie McCaw. Half Time by Nigel Owens is just one of about five other books I'm half-way through but then got distracted...

Movies: Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvell Universe (sorry DC, but you can piss off), anything with space, technology, superheroes or aliens really. Also anything where the human race has royally fucked everything up. Still better than watching the news... 😅 Not that big a fan of romantic comedies and stuff like that unless they're actually realistic.

I also devour series by the truckload and not always ones to be proud of.. There's Rick and Morty, Man Seeking Woman, How I Met Your Mother and You're the Worst. But also Ex on the Beach and Are You the One. Can't help it, I love them. Tried to follow the Bachelor Australia cause the Honey Badger was in it, but oh man, even for me that show is too painful to watch.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My year living in Sweden and teaching at an international school was pretty awesome. Travelled to the top part of the country to see the northern lights, go dog sledding and find out how RIDICULOUSLY COLD it can get on this planet of ours. Like your battery dying within a minute, that cold.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've been a Biology teacher for almost 10 years, so I know a lot of random facts about animal behaviour and the human body.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a very social person with a positive attitude. I'd be very grateful for your hospitality and wouldn't mind helping out around the house.
