About Me

I'm a 28 years old PHD student. I'm a blend of a lot of cultures and origins : I'm Lebanese so I speak French Arabic and English, I'm fascinated by French culture (movies and literature), I know a lot about South American culture, food traditions and politics (and particularly Colombia because my grandmother is colombian, so I am too), I speak a bit of Spanish, according to family registers I may have Greek origins, who knows...
To put it in a nutshell, I consider myself Mediterranean ; I'm sometimes loud, I eat and sleep late, and I need sunny days.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can afford sleeping in a hostel/hotel/airbnb, but I believe in cultural exchange, and couchsurfing is a great way to learn more about places we're visiting and people living there ! So I prefer Couchsurfing.
Some people think that couchsurfing is for mingy people ; in fact, some people really choose couchsurfing because it's free. Don't expect from me to just drop my bags in your home and use your bed or couch, and disappear ; it'll be a pleasure for me to share with you a bottle of wine from Bordeaux or some Lebanese dishes (if I find a Lebanese caterer), because couchsurfing is sharing, and that's why we love it !

Music, Movies, and Books

I like very chill music, acoustic, reggae, modern and old lebanese, but I enjoy also electro / electro house, 60's 70's 80's music, and some commercial songs after a lot of drinking !
Some of my favorite artists
Sixto Rodriguez
Bob Marley
The Aveners
Madeon
Manu Chao
Petit Biscuit
The animals
Pink Floyd
Frank Sinatra
Tryö
Mashrou' Leila
Fayrouz
Marcel Khalife
...

I'm into French classic and modern social literature, and into Arabic social poetry.

Concerning movies and series.
My all time favorite series are Mad Men (for its characters, the quality of the shooting, the rhythm) and Breaking Bad (mostly for the suspense and the story)
Hollywood movies are entertaining and some are high quality movies, but I prefer European cinema, particularly the 20th century period. German Expressionism (Fritz Lang with M and Metropolis), Italian Neorealism (Rossellini), Antonioni's movies (Blow up, The passenger), French nouvelle vague (Chabrol's movies, à bout de souffle), Ingmar Bergman etc.
In Hollywood, I love David Lynch work (mulholand drive in particular), Scorsese (yes! Taxi driver !), and Tarantino (kill bill).
I can watch any kind of other movies, don't worry ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done a lot of interesting things such as volunteering in a political campaign (even if I consider volunteering in general as a duty as a citizen) and playing a role in the organization of my university's debate club and magazine. I won't talk much about myself, but there's no ONE amazing thing to be done.
In general, maybe having the opportunity to travel and meeting people is enough to be amazing, knowing that a lot of people aren't able to do that for diverse reasons. The most amazing thing you can do is enjoying every moment and always see pros instead of cons, wherever you are and you do. That's amazing :)
However, as simple as that, my first couchsurfing experience was really good!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you don't know how to play guitar, but you have a guitar, I can help you learning the chords. I know the basics, and I need much more practice. Vice versa, if you're a guitar player, I can learn a lot !
I can share a lot of things about my country, (food, culture, politics). I love debating about everything, so don't be afraid to stop me if it annoys you, I won't be mad :p
I can teach French and Arabic, it'll be a pleasure for me to do it. However, if you speak Spanish we'll try to only speak in Spanish, I need to practice !
If you're in Beirut, I can offer a Beirut alternative tour, and teach you how to play tawle, an oriental game, in a traditional café.
