About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Right now I'm breaking free of all obligations from work and study to gain the freedom to search for my own values and what I find important in life.

ABOUT ME

I'm a young guy trying to get to know myself by travelling and meeting new people. I never really used to go out but one day about two year ago I suddently realised there is much more in the world than just the familiar and everyday life (and how much better that part of the world is 😉 ). Therefore I try to get out as much as possible and meet new people and just experience life as it comes.

Recently I realised that the job I'm doing and the way I'm studying aren't making me happy. Therefore I decided to quit my job (which will happen next oktober) and finish my Bachelors degree as soon as possible (hopefully by december). After that I will take some time to search for the thing I really want to do and how I can make a difference. The first steps will probably be getting into voluntering programs and making a real difference somewhere.

PHILOSOPHY

As mentioned before I am breaking loose of all the standard obligations from work and study. I don't want to settle with the things I have right now while I'm not really happy. I want to search for the things that really matter and how I can do something that really makes a difference. I suppose my view on the modern society is a bit sceptic. We have created a world that can't sustain itself and we're deploiting the earth. So for right now I'm trying to learn about sustainability and how I want to fit in the world we live in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm couchsurfing to meet new people in an 'unconventional' way. The people you meet and the way you meet them is much more meaningfull than the superficial way of meeting people in conventional ways (in my opinion). This offers me an opportunity to get new insights on life and get to know people who I would've never met following the beaten path.

I want to learn from different cultures, gather other insights and talk to new people to gain more knowledge and form my own grounded opinion and view on life.

Interests

Travel is my main interest at the moment. I try to get out as much as work allows so that means lots of weekendbreaks and a long summer vacation. Besides that I'm practising a new sport for about half a year already called ultimate frisbee. A great sport which is much more funded on having fun rather than beeing overly competitive (greatest example is that there is no refferee, it's self regulated and all about spirit).

The time that remains I spend on scouting where I am part of the staff from a group of waterscouts. As a result of that I absolutely love all kinds of watersports. I have a lot of experience in sailing and would like to gain more experience in (wind)surfing.

Since 2016 I've also become active as a volunteer in the Dutch Scouts Association. This includes mostly organising a big international camp in 2018 and learning a lot about the whole organisation.

Music, Movies, and Books

As a kid I litterally devoured books, mostly historical strories. My mom works in a library so I had an endless supply of books. Nowadays I still appreciate a good book and reading is a way to relax and slow down from the rush of the outside world.

I only really found out about music the last few years. Most of the time I listen to the radio and modern pop music. I can appreciate most music styles except things like hardcore or metal.
Music is nice but in the end true silence (the sound of nature) is so much better than any piece of music ever made.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going on a trip while not knowing my destination untill I arrived at the airport. The best experience I've had travelling so far, a really spontaneous and unconstrained trip since I couldn't plan anything in advance.

And the best so far is surviving on a deserted island for 12 days with the bare minimum of food and only water.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always in for a good conversation about anything. Financial skills might come in handy and furthermore I have some survival skills that I can pass on from my experience at Scouting. And since I just started ultimate frisbee I can teach you some cool throws with a frisbee.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, hard question... I'm not a good cook, I could teach you the Dutch language (but that isn't that usefull 😉 ) and haven't got any musical talent. I just want to make a real connection with the people I meet and have some memorable experiences.

I guess I can share my company and if you think that's enough after reading my profile than we should get along well 😃
