Hello everyone,

My name is Kate, I’m 31 and I’m from the UK. Ive been really lucky over the years (pre covid) to have enjoyed lots of travelling with my partner and meeting some incredible friends through couch surfing along the way.

As we all know covid has well and truly changed the world we all live in and travelling has certainly become a very different experience. With the UK slowly starting to open up again I decided it was time to start a new business venture and with this will hopefully be travelling more of my home country, the UK.

I’m friendly, tidy, easy to talk to and really enjoy good conversation, sharing stories, good book recommendations and cooking.

I have met some truly wonderful people during my Couchsurfing days who have since become lifelong friends and I really hope to continue this journey and meet some new people along the way.

I run a small business called Utterly Ugly Portraits and I am very much hoping to get on the road and draw along the way, become a travelling artist which is the dream. I’m keen to get to know your area and find a few spots I can hopefully get a few new customers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve done a fusion of couch surfing, house sitting, camping and hostels over the years but I find couch surfing such a rewarding and exciting experience. People for me, are what makes my travel memories and experiences so wonderful, so meeting like minded people who are looking to make friends, share experiences and stories couch surfing is the way to go. I like to think I’m not the surfer to just come into your home, eat your food and blob out using all your wifi and amenities. No way! I want to share the great experience over a few drinks, and maybe a nice meal. I also totally appreciate and respect that people have jobs and can’t always be the host to spend all their free time with, I’m also very comfortable with being independent.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love all music, you'd be hard to find something I won't happily listen to. Movies, I love recommendations, something out of the box, independent movies, I enjoy a good gritty documentary.

Books, I love something a little bit scary. Anything that can evoke emotion I find very powerful.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked as a head cook at a polar bear research centre in Churchill Manitoba, really surreal cooking eggs in the morning whilst a polar bear just casually walks by the window. Getting trapped numerous times due to blizzards and trying to figure out how to feed a building full of people with the food not able to reach the centre because of the weather! Fun times.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a great communicator, I really never meet people I don't like as I feel that everybody knows something that I don't don't and each person you meet can teach you a lesson. I'd like to think that people feel really relaxed around me, can truly trust me and in no time we will be chatting away sharing stories and having a laugh. I love any outdoor activities but also love a rainy day and a good movie or getting stuck into a book. I enjoy cooking, especially vegan food if you’d like to try a few dishes I’m always happy to share. I'm trying to learn Russian but I am not gifted with languages. I’m happy to share my interests with anybody and learn yours. I love a good board game!

What I Can Share with Hosts

A chance for some great company you can trust. I care about your home like I would my own. I’m very happy to learn and listen about your local area and what it has to offer. I can be independent and are happy to give you space if you need it. Polite, considerate, respectful, fun, friendly and easy going. I have a great sense of humour and I’m always up for trying new things. I do love a good game, I have a couple of favourites qwirkle, Rummikub etc but I’m always keen to try something new 😁 always happy to share a meal if you want to try something new.
