About Me
Hey there, my name is Leonie. I'm 19 years old and currently travelling around in North America.
I grew up in a small village called "Salz" ( which means "salt" in english ;) ) in Bavaria, Germany. I finished school last year and decided to take a break from learning and explore other countries and cultures instead.
That's how I ended up flying to the U.S. and traveling through Canada with two of my friends.
I've always wanted to go to the U.S. In 5th grade my English teacher told me there's a student exchange with a school in Detroit and I literally freaked out about it! Since then I've been counting the years and when I finally reached 10th grade so I could fly to Michigan they cancelled the exchange - I cried for a week...
So much for my affection for the North American countries.
Of course that doesn't mean that I wouldn't want to travel to the South or any other continent! The world is a mistery and I'd love to discover its secret places.
I traveled through Canada from March 2016 until July 2016. My friends and me bought a car and crossed the largest country we have ever been to.
We started in Vancouver, wwoofed in Golden at the Beaverfoot Lodge, stopped in Banff and Jasper and finally drove all the way to Toronto. With a few stops along the way it took us 4 days in total to get there but even then we hadn't had enough. After a few weeks in Canada's biggest city we packed or bags and left for Nova Scotia. Cape Breton Highlands National Park I can tell you guys you've never seen anything like this before!
After almost 6 months we left the great white north at the end of July and it felt like time had flown. Back home I was sitting in my room, reminiscing about what I had experienced and to sum it up: I packed my bag and flew back to Vancouver. Now I am here, looking forward to new adventures, hitting the Canadian powder and making the best out of the 4 months I have left here.
If I had to describe myself in a few words, I would say I'm a very open-minded person and curious about new things.
I don't like stress and fights. I prefer surrounding myself with great people and great music, so I'm always up for having a night out! I know I'm from Germany but there's hardly anything better than a good Canadian cider, haha ;)
The past months have taught me a lot and I don't regret a single decision I have made so far. Life is great and people are too, so what's left to worry about?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The reason I signed up for couchsurfing is that I love meeting new people.
I think getting to know how they live and what they do is one of the most interesting things in the world. As for me I haven't exactly figured out yet what I want to do for a living so I feel like it's a great way to find some inspiration.
Interests
There are a lot of things I like to do but what popped up in my mind almost immediately was:
- COFFEE (I can honestly say I'm addicted to that stuff)
- music (I live for festivals)
- movies (if I see a good performance I stalk the actor until there's nothing left I don't know about him/her haha )
- books (sometimes there is no better way to relax than reading)
- meeting up with friends (laughs, and having a good time. What else does one need?)
- having a great night out (I mean who doesn't like that? ;) )
- snowboarding (super excited for the Canadian winter)
- books
- movies
- traveling
- music
Music, Movies, and Books
Music is one of the greatest inventions of all time. I hardly leave the house without my iPhone and my headphones. Whether its pop, rock, indie or techno I enjoy every single one of them. I'm actually listening to some deep house while typing, haha (shoutout to Paul Kalkbrenner).
If you ask my friends about whether I like watching movies or not they're probably gonna tell you that I'm the biggest film freak they have ever known. I stalk actors, I stalk directors I even thought about buying the movie script of Dirty Dancing.
Yes, as cheesy as it is Dirty Dancing is my absolute favorite movie. That doesn't mean I don't like watching a good action movie though.
I can't even count all of the books I've read so far. I really liked the Harry Potter novels (I mean who doesn't?), read through a couple of thrillers and enjoy a nice little love story every now and then (#justgirlythings).
What I Can Share with Hosts
Stories: Although I'm only 19 years old I have seen a lot. What you experience during travels are the most exctining things in the world and if I someone is interested in hearing about my trip I'm always up for talking about it.
A place to stay: of course I will offer my home as well in case my hosts decide to come over to Germany for a while.
What I hope to share the most though is having a good time! :)
