About Me

Hi, my name's Rodrigo, brazilian, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro. Studied International Relations there, and currently doing my Masters on Cultural Heritage in Coimbra, Portugal. Passionate about traveling and meeting new people of the most diverse styles and backgrounds.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since i was a kid I've wanted to travel the world. Now that I'm older and with the means to, I'm going on my first major backpacking trip over Europe this July and August, and hope to experience many more travels.

UPDATE: I did the trip I described above last year, and it was fantastic! Couchsurfing really helped me out, and as soon as I got back home I stated looking forward to host people as well. CS is a great way for getting to know people, and to experience each and every city in a different and more personal way

I'm excited in getting to know new people, and, to host them as well, should they want to visit Rio!

Interests

I have always loved learning new languages, and I do my best to speak them as well as I can. Besides Spanish and Italian, I've studied German for 3 years, and just got back on track. Recently I started checking Dutch out, and I found it nothing but incredible.
I love navigating throug musical apps to find new and nice songs in different languages, I find the sound of it fantastic
I am a diehard sports fan, most notably football, tennis and F1 Racing. Reasonable tennis player, centre back/left back, terrible GK, amateur long distance swimmer. Also follow the NFl, Nba, Nhl, and sometimes Eurobasketball. I love listening to music, and am a major Cinephile and bookreader

Music, Movies, and Books

I like many different music genres, but to choose the main ones, Folk, Jazz, Classical Rock, Folk Rock, Indie Rock, Bluegrass and Bossa Nova. Also I love "world music", like celtic folk (Chieftains!!), african guitar picking (Ali Farka Toure, Boubacar Traoré, King Sunny Ade), anyway, all kinds of music. Bon Iver/Justin Vernon is possibly my favorite artist, together with Leonard Cohen and Simon&Garfunkel. I wish I could play any kind of instrument, though.

Favorite movies may be La Grande Bellezza, L'Auberge Espangnole, Gladiator, Amarcord, City of God, Intouchables (a lot because of the soundtrack), Godfather and any of the Coen Brothers, Monty Python or Woody Allen ones. I try every day to know more and more about cinema in general. Also, GoT, True Detective, Silicon Valley, are a few of the tv shows I watch regularly.

I'm an amateur writer, and on my free time I like to write short stories, chronicles, and occasionaly sports or international related stuff. Mario Puzo's Godfather, Song of Ice and Fire, Hemingway and Bernard Cornwell's books are some of the latest I've read (though i have a pile of unread ones), and I've started taking on graphic novels as well, I see it as a marvelous alternative way to tell stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Crossed Copacabana beach end to end by swimming (professional/amateur tournament)

Swimming in Lake Bled, all the way to Bled Island, the most beautiful setting

Forgetting how to ride a bike

*Remembering how to ride a bike, but falling on 3 bushes during the process

Getting ran over by a dog in Slovenia and lying on the ground laughing for 5 minutes because i just couldn't believe what happened (it was a big dog, though)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some portuguese and brazilian idioms/slangs, loads of futile culture, football history, besides talking about general history, politics, sports, movies, basicaly everything! If you have the time I'm up to playing football, tennis, or go swimming. I'd go cycling too if I hadn't forgotten how to (no, seriously).
Besides the obvious tourist areas, I like to discover different and alternative places, bars, restaurants, and even clubs (also, if you like football, to visit some stadiums)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm not the greatest cook in the world, but I love to do it, and can help making, buying, or bringing food in. I can share stories, jokes, and a fun and easygoing spirit!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Monaco, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

Brazil, Portugal, United States
