About Me

Get in touch with what I do! :)

Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/barbaramarryk/

I would describe myself as girl for the carriage as well as wagon- Its a Slovak saying and I am not quite sure if it makes any sense in english...But the point would be that I am very easy going person. I am interested in so many things, concerts, arts and crafts all kind of sports and culture, exploring and traveling. I am most passionate about human rights and sustainable development. I have been working in refugee centres but also done projects with children and adults with disabilities, children affected by HIV and/or TB, I was working on a projects with homeless people and I have also worked in a field of women empowerment and gender equality and currently I am working in a child rights organisation.

I lived in Indonesia, Belgium, India, China, US, Germany and the Uk and just recently finished my masters degree in international development and management in Sweden after which I have moved back to Belgium.

As I say, new adventure always awaits

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have heard about couch surfing only when I came to Germany. Many of my friends have tried it before and they had only positive feedback on it. I am very friendly and outgoing person and I think the mission behind this website its just great. Getting to know new people and their culture.

Interests

I am into many different things. I love winter sports. I have been skiing since I was 3 years old and then started snowboarding at 15, now I switch between them both since I cannot decide. This goes along with my multiple interest kind of vibe. I paint, sing, make bracelets, attend all the concerts that I can and cultural activities including exhibitions and shows and I also love all kinds of sports. I do bouldering quite regularly, also yoga and loads of biking. I really enjoy group sports, especially volleyball but I also like padle and tennis. I would love to start doing pottery or some serious knitting (yes, part of me its a 90 year old lady)

Music, Movies, and Books

Once again you would probably find me listening to all kind of genres. I love alternative indie and rock, but also afro beats and I won't say no to a good 90s dancing party. I enjoy getting to know new groups and genres, especially going to random concerts of artists I have never heard of. In my playlist you will also find white basic bitch type of tunes and really old school music (Aretha Franklin and her deceased friends)

Movies depend on the mood. I always love to look for recommendations :) I love independent movies with deep stories. I also love when the cinematography and music in them just blow my mind. But boy oh boy, you will definitely find me also looking at cheesy comedies and stupid easy to watch stuff. Again, I am the all genre type of person.

Books: I love to read, but I haven't been doing much of it recently. Usually I exchange in genres to diversify my reading list. I really enjoy novels from national settings and when I am in a specific country I always try to read a book by a local author. I sometimes like reading self-help books but also biographies and then a lot of development literature especially in connection to the nature, people human rights and poverty.
