About Me
Hi! I'm Saya, and I'm very new to couchsurfing! I haven't used it in the past because I'm constantly volunteering, but for this trip we have a couple of stops that we don't have enough days to volunteer. I know that the lack of references might put people off from us, but we promise we are really chill, great people. You can see what people say about us on AirBnB here: I am traveling with my husband, Alberto (Beto). I am a clinical social worker from California, and he is an environmental engineer from Mexico. We are both professionals in our 30's and we just got married in February! We live in the city Guanajuato in Mexico together.
We are on a 7-week trip to volunteer through the South of Mexico and Central America, and in the places that we will not be volunteering we hope to use Couchsurfing as a way to meet local people, which is super important to us! We love traveling, music, camping and other outdoor activities, Beto loves soccer and Saya is the least athletic person on the planet. Both of us prefer coffee to alcohol and are not partiers.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We love to meet local people when we travel, which is why we volunteer. We hope to use Couchsurfing in the places that we will not be volunteering (for too short of a stay) to be able to meet local people.
Music, Movies, and Books
I am a HUGE reader. My favorite authors are Haruki Murakami, Paul Auster, Christopher Priest, Jack Kerouac, Hemingway, Anthony Doerr, etc etc I could go on forever. I'm not that into movies. My favorite music is all 60's and 70's music, my favorite genres are folk and motown :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I lived in an indigenous pueblo (Kichwa) in the middle of Ecuador for half a year. I moved to Mexico at the age of 30!
Teach, Learn, Share
I play the ukulele (although I'm not bringing it with me, I don't think) and the piano, speak Japanese, can cook Japanese food, we love playing cards, playing music together, Beto loves to play soccer (sorry - Saya is the least athletic person in the world). We would just love to get to know your city, and you are always welcome in ours.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can cook you Japanese food, like tempura! :) And also, in return you will always be welcome to stay with us in Guanajuato. We're really nice people, we promise. Both bilingual in English and Spanish (and Saya is trilingual in Japanese) and we love to connect with local people to learn about the culture.
