About Me

I have a background in tourism and a deep passion for travel and exploration. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively across Iran by various means, including hitchhiking, cycling, road trips, and backpacking. Along the way, I’ve experienced the beauty of Iran’s landscapes, particularly through mountain climbing adventures, which have given me a profound respect for nature and outdoor activities.

For more than seven years, I’ve worked with international NGOs in Iran, focusing on humanitarian projects for Iranian and Afghan children. This experience has enriched my understanding of different cultures and strengthened my belief in the power of communication and human connection. I love meeting people from all walks of life and value diversity in all its forms, whether it’s ethnic, cultural, or social.

Couchsurfing provides a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded people, exchange stories, and learn from one another. It’s a way for me to continue my journey of exploration, not only through travel but also through human interaction.

Interests

• Connecting with Locals: Whether through travel or humanitarian work, I believe in the value of building bridges with people, regardless of their background or ethnicity.

• Culture & Communication: I am passionate about immersing myself in different cultures, learning from them, and sharing my own, particularly in relation to the Middle East.

• Mountain Climbing: Exploring Iran’s mountains has been a rewarding and challenging experience that has allowed me to connect with nature and push my limits.

• Hitchhiking: A thrilling way to meet locals and experience life on the road, hitchhiking has been a significant part of my travel experiences.

• Cycling & Cycle Touring: I enjoy long-distance cycling, having toured various parts of Iran by bike, which is an amazing way to explore the country at a slower pace.

• Humanitarian Activities: Working with NGOs has instilled in me a passion for making a difference, especially when it comes to supporting children in need.

• Working with Children: My professional experience has involved designing and implementing projects that impact children’s lives, particularly in education and social support.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a wide variety of music. I love traditional Persian music, such as the works of Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Kayhan Kalhor, which evoke a deep connection to Iranian culture. I also enjoy more contemporary sounds, like Alt-J, Sigur Rós, and The National, as well as world music that reflects different cultures I’ve encountered during my travels.

When it comes to movies, I’m drawn to films that explore human stories and cultural diversity. Some of my favorites include The Kite Runner (set in Afghanistan, reflecting on cultural and political themes), A Separation (an Iranian film that beautifully explores family dynamics and social issues), and Into the Wild (a powerful story about adventure, self-discovery, and the connection to nature). I also enjoy documentaries like He Named Me Malala, which focuses on education and human rights, and Born Into Brothels, a moving story of children overcoming hardship.

As for books, I’m an avid reader of travel literature and cultural studies. Some of my favorites include The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, On the Road by Jack Kerouac, and A Time to Keep Silence by Patrick Leigh Fermor. Books like The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi provide deeper insights into the Middle East. I also enjoy reading about education and social dynamics, such as Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire and Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson, which combine my interest in humanitarian work and education.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I’ve done is cycling from the north to the south of Iran. This journey gave me an intimate view of the country’s incredible landscapes, from the lush forests of the north to the deserts of the south, and allowed me to experience the kindness and hospitality of people along the way.

Teach, Learn, Share

As someone who studied tourism and has traveled extensively throughout Iran, I love sharing the stories and lessons I’ve gained along the way. From cycling across the country to exploring small villages and cities, I have witnessed a wide range of cultural practices and social dynamics. I’m eager to share my experiences of travel, hitchhiking, and mountain climbing in different environments, as well as my knowledge about tourism and how it can shape our view of the world.

I also have a solid understanding of education and learning, gained from my humanitarian work with children. I can offer insights into educational systems, particularly in crisis settings, and I’m always curious to learn more about how education can empower individuals in different parts of the world.

My experience with humanitarian projects has also allowed me to learn and observe the cultural and social dynamics of the Middle East, especially during emergencies and developmental challenges. I’m passionate about discussing these topics with anyone interested in understanding the region better.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer you a warm and genuine experience of Iranian hospitality. If you stay with me, I’ll be happy to share my knowledge of Iran’s rich culture and social life. Whether you’re curious about traditional customs, Iranian history, or everyday social dynamics, I can provide a deeper understanding of the country from a local perspective.

I also love sharing stories of my travels across Iran, whether through hitchhiking, cycling, or mountain climbing. We can exchange travel tips, and I’ll be more than happy to help you plan your own journey in Iran or discuss the beautiful places I’ve visited.
